Sunday Night Football’s game of the week features a great matchup between the new looking Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.
The Patriots have rebranded themselves under the leadership of Cam Newton and look to be very capable of competing for the Playoffs this year. The Seahawks came out on fire against Atlanta last weekend and featured a retooled, explosive offense.

Patriots vs Seahawks NFL Game Preview
These two franchises have played against each other 18 times and they’ve each won nine games apiece. However, it was the Patriots that came out ahead in Super Bowl XLIX.
Seattle won the last regular season matchup in 2016 by the score of 31 to 27. The Seahawks are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings.
- The New England Patriots (1-0) was impressive at home in Week 1 against the Dolphins by playing a physical style of football with 217 yards on the ground. The defense looked good and Cam Newton scored two rushing touchdowns on the day. Can the Patriots win their first road test of the season?
- The Seattle Seahawks (1-0) successfully went on the road and beat Atlanta 38 to 25, but the score wasn’t even that close as the Seahawks were up 31 to 12 with 11 minutes left in the game. Seattle’s offense looked explosive while the defense made timely plays. Can Seattle go 2-0 to start the season?
Most NFL betting sites opened with Seattle favored by 3.5 points. That spread has gone up slightly to 4 points in favor of the Seahawks. The Over/Under opened at 44 points and has gone up to 45 total points with most online betting sites.

Let’s get this out of the way right off the bat, this isn’t the same Patriots that we’re accustomed to seeing. Yet, they had an edge about themselves last Sunday and played a physical style of football on both sides of the ball.
I can see that trend continuing this week as they play on the road at Seattle and would prefer not to give the Seahawks extra offensive possessions. New England had the ball for nearly 35 minutes against the Dolphins and I expect the Patriots to try and beat that mark this weekend.
Seattle went down to Atlanta and put up 38 points as QB Russell Wilson threw for 322 yards and four TDs. However, the Seahawks will need more balance on offense this weekend as they only put up 84 rushing yards against the Falcons.
Look for Seattle to focus on giving Chris Carson 15 to 20 carries and to use their play-action pass for some big plays. The Seahawks showed that they have a strong passing attack, but the Patriots have a great secondary, so the run game will need to be established early and often.

I think this game will end up being close, probably a field goal or less. I don’t trust the Seahawks and their four point spread this weekend, but I also don’t feel confident in the Patriots winning this game. Since the Seattle moneyline doesn’t offer any value, the best option for this game is the Over/Under.
The Over is 3-0 in the last three games between these two teams. For Seattle, the Over is 6-1 in their last seven games against the AFC.
I believe each team will cross the 21 point mark as we have a competitive matchup. I give the edge to Seattle as I need to see the Patriots play on the road before I feel confident in their chances of winning.
With that said, I like the Over as Seattle will put up points with their big play ability and Wilson’s scrambling. New England will have to open up their offense in the second half if they’re going to want to stay close on the scoreboards.
Either Seattle wins in a blowout and they cover the O/U and spread or the Patriots cover the spread and the game still goes Over 45 total points.
