On Thursday, March 25th, one of the sport’s top pound for pound fighters returns to the ring as Amanda Serrano defends her WBC and WBO featherweight titles against Daniela Bermudez live from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
In addition to those two championship belts, the vacant IBO featherweight title will also be up for grabs in this contest.
Does Bermudez have a real shot at pulling off the upset or will Serrano continue her nine year unbeaten streak? This main event fight is expected to start at 11:30pm ET and can be seen live on NBC Sports.

Serrano opened as a -1250 betting favorite for this title fight and has seen her odds shoot up to a range of -2000 to -5000. She’s been a large betting favorite in all of her fights for many years now.

Bermudez Brings Her Own Unbeaten Streak
Bermudez enters this title fight having gone unbeaten in her last 14 contests. 13 of those bouts were victories and one was a draw.
She last fought in December and won via 10th round TKO over Cintia Castillo. Her last defeat came nearly seven years ago when she lost to Yesica Bopp via unanimous decision. She has never been stopped as a professional.
This will be the biggest fight of her career. However, Bermudez expressed that she’s calm and prepare for Serrano:
“I am well trained and focused for Thursday. I have gone to Mexico and Japan to fight. I’m calm, we came to win and above the ring is where things turn out. That wins the best.”
Bermudez has a 28.5% knockout rate with just 10 KOs in 29 pro wins. She’s a former three division world champ looking to regain some gold. However, she will be going up in weight to attempt this.
Amanda Serrano Looks to Pick up Where She Left Off
When it comes to talking about Serrano, there’s so much to cover. In the spirit of simplifying her career, Serrano is one of the sport’s best fighters of all-time. She’s a seven division world champ and the only female boxer to win titles in at least four divisions.
Her only defeat came nine years ago to Frida Wallberg via unanimous decision. Since then, Serrano has won 25 straight fights. She captured the WBC and WBO featherweight titles in September 2019 when she beat Heather Hardy via unanimous decision.
She then fought two times in 2020, but they were more of the “keep busy” variety as neither opponent had any hope of winning. Bermudez is a big step up from the last two fights and this is something that Serrano recognizes:
“She’s a warrior. She’s fought great fighters and beaten great fighters, so she wants to challenge me in my weight class and she wants to become a four-division world champion, so she challenged the right girl. And I wasn’t gonna not accept the challenge.”
Looking back at the Hardy fight, Serrano basically won every round. It was a dominating performance over a world champ.
29 of her 39 pro wins have come via KO which is a 70.7% finishing rate. That’s a staggering number for women’s boxing and for the amount of fights she has on her resume.
Take Serrano to Win in Convincing Fashion
Fans, pundits and Serrano can hype up Bermudez as much as they want, but the truth is that this fight is going to be one-sided and Serrano will once again show why she’s one of the best in the sport.

I give Bermudez credit for wanting to take on the best, but she’s going to prove that there are levels in women’s boxing and that Serrano is on a higher one. In fact, only Katie Taylor and Claressa Shields are ranked higher than Serrano on the P4P list.
Speaking of Taylor, Serrano is hoping to step in the ring with her after she clears out the featherweight division:
“That fight is definitely on my radar. I definitely still want to have that fight with Katie Taylor. She’s one of the best and I would love nothing more than to share the ring with Katie Taylor, but right now, I’m on the quest of becoming undisputed (featherweight) champion. That’s my goal for this year, and hopefully when I become undisputed champion, then it’ll be seven-division world champion & undisputed champion vs. undisputed champion, Katie Taylor.”
That would be an incredible fight and arguably the biggest in the sport other than Shields vs Taylor.
For Serrano to accomplish that dream fight, she will need to dispatch of Bermudez on Thursday night and I don’t see any reason to think she won’t.
Serrano will outbox Bermudez all fight long, push the pace and wear down her for. I wouldn’t be surprised if she picks up a late round TKO/KO victory as well.
Keep an eye out for the Over/Under once it’s released. It will provide better value than Serrano’s moneyline.
