Ever since Dustin Poirier knocked out Conor McGregor back in January, fans have been discussing when their trilogy fight would take place. It’s a matchup that the UFC seems interested in, yet they haven’t announced an official date for this bout. New reports have just surfaced claiming the third McGregor vs. Poirier fight could end up taking place this July.

Many believe this is the biggest fight the UFC can put on right now. Both of these men have knockout wins against one another. Today, we’ll discuss when and where this bout may end up taking place.

Let’s get into it!

The UFC is Poised to Put on Super Fights in 2021

2020 ended up being a truly special year for the UFC. In March, the promotion was forced to halt all of its events. Unlike many other sports leagues, however, the UFC immediately began looking for ways to safely hold events.

In May, the UFC finally held its first event. It was a major success and the promotion then began one of its biggest years in history. It managed to pull this off by holding shows at the Apex Center in Las Vegas, and Fight Island (Yas Island) in Abu Dhabi.

2021 is now shaping up to be an even bigger year for the promotion. Several massive shows have already taken place this year. That includes the recent heavyweight bout between Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou.

There was a huge amount of hype surrounding this bout. Ngannou came out the winner and now has an opportunity to fight Jon Jones later this year. That could be a massive super-fight for the promotion and would surely be a PPV hit.

The fight between Israel Adesanya and Jon Jones remains a possibility to take place this year, too. Adesanya wants to defend his middleweight title again. If he’s successful, the fight with Jones could end up taking place this winter.

No super-fight is as big as the one between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. Fans around the world want to see how the trilogy plays out. It now seems we have a month in mind for this bout to take place!

Here’s What We Know About the Third McGregor vs. Poirier Fight

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier are two of the biggest combat sports stars on the planet. Back in 2014, these two men competed for the first time. There was some serious heat heading into this featherweight matchup.

It took less than one round for Conor McGregor to score a knockout over Dustin Poirier. This win ended up being a pivotal win for the Irishman’s career. Many believe it was the moment he became a true superstar in the sport.

This past January, a rematch between these two men took place. The majority of online sports betting sites had McGregor listed as a favorite heading into this bout. Poirier was confident, though, and believed he’s improved tremendously since their first bout.

Poirier used devastating leg kicks to chop at Conor’s base. In the second round, he hit McGregor with a counter hook and swarmed him with punches to get a knockout victory. The win made them 1-1 and fans immediately called for the trilogy bout.

Over the weekend, UFC President Dana White spoke to the media about the third McGregor vs. Poirier fight. He claims that it’s smart for Dustin to push for this bout. You can check out his comments below.

“Dustin wants the rematch [with Conor McGregor]. That’s smart. That’s what he should do. He should take the rematch, take that fight. It’s a big fight for him,” White said. “Kid’s worked hard his whole life, his whole career to be in a position like this. That’s the fight you take. We’ve been in positions like this before with others who have made the mistake of not taking that fight, and [it was the] biggest mistake of their lives.”

ESPN has just reported that this fight is now being targeted to take place this July. It’s reportedly “close” to being finalized. A location has not been announced, yet it seems likely that fans will be allowed to attend.

Stay tuned for more updates on this fight over the next few weeks!

Odds on the Next Lightweight Title Bout are Now Available

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier are two of the best lightweight fighters on the planet. They won’t be fighting for the lightweight title next, though. Instead, the UFC has booked Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira into the next title bout at 155 pounds.

This is an interesting clash between two fighters. Chandler is still new to the UFC but made a big impression in his debut. He has big power on the feet and is a fantastic wrestler with many impressive wins on his resume. Oliveira is a veteran of the fight game and is currently on an eight-fight win streak.

BetOnline is offering great odds on this matchup! At the moment, Charles Oliveira is listed as the -135 favorite. He has looked incredible lately and proved he is among the elite at 155 pounds by defeating Tony Ferguson last December.

Michael Chandler is one of the most powerful strikers in the UFC. He is a little untested, though, and comes into this bout as the +115 underdog. He does have a fantastic style to get Charles trouble, though.

This is a fantastic bout and one that many will be tuning in to see. The winner of this title fight may end up facing the winner of the third McGregor vs. Poirier fight.
