ustralian mobile wagering operator BlueBet Holdings (BBT) has withdrawn its application for a sports betting license in Virginia. The withdrawal comes less than a week after BlueBet announced that it had failed to secure a permit in Arizona.

BlueBet had applied for a license but was informed by the Virginia Lottery that it was not eligible, given that licenses would only be granted to operators that had experience in other US states and have equity interest owned by minority individuals or minority-owned businesses.

Eighteen businesses applied for the five available permits, with BBT labeling the application process “exhaustive”. The company will be refunded all of the application fees and said it was eligible to re-apply for a license with the Virginia Lottery again in the future.

BlueBet already holds a permit for Iowa and said that it would apply for permits in Colorado, Tennessee, and Maryland and monitor sports betting legislation progress in ten regions where sports betting was legal but not yet operational, reports The Market Herald.
