Who Will Win the 2023 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest?

The history of Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest dates back more than 100 years. It started in 1916 and has grown into arguably the most famous MLE event of the year.

There are men’s and women’s competitions available for betting on. BetUS has competitive odds for both competitions and offers a great selection of prop bets as well.

Men’s Winner

  • Joey Chestnut (-5000)
  • Geoffrey Esper (+900)
  • Nick Wehry (+1400)
  • James Webb (+1600)
  • Matthew Stonie (+1600)
  • Darron Breedon (+1800)
  • Patrock Bertoletti (+2500)
  • Gideon Oji (+3000)

One man has dominated this competition for well over a decade. Joey Chestnut holds the world record for the number of hot dogs eaten in the competition, with 76. Last year, Chestnut battled through a leg injury to devour a stagger 63 hot dogs and pick up his 15th Mustard Belt.

Joey Chestnut currently holds the record for downing 76 hot dogs and buns‼️🤯

Will he or someone else surpass that mark this year?

With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that Chestnut is a heavy favorite in the latest Hot Dog Eating Contest betting odds at BetUS. The reigning champion is listed at -5000 and has only lost once in 16 appearances in the competition.

Geoffrey Esper (+900) and Nick Wehry (+1400) have the second and third-best odds, respectively. Esper was last year’s runner-up, finishing with 47.5 total hot dogs eaten. If anyone can take down Chestnut, Wehry would seem to be the best bet.

Realistically, though, Chestnut is the best bet here. Even with the champion slowing down in the second half of last year’s competition, Chestnut still won by more than a dozen hot dogs. His biggest competition is his own record of 76 hot dogs.

Prediction:

Joey Chestnut wins the Men’s Hot Dog Eating Contest (-5000)

Women’s Winner

  • Miki Sudo (-5000)
  • Michelle Lesco (+900)
  • Sarah Rodriguez (+1600)
  • Larell Marie Mele (+2500)
  • Katie Prettyman (+4000)
  • Sophia DeVita (+4500)

The Women’s competition has its own dominant champion, Miki Sudo (-5000). Sudo has won eight Mustard Belts and holds the women’s record for hot dogs eaten. She finished the 2020 Hot Dog Eating Contest with 48.5 hot dogs, a record that still stands.

Sudo missed the 2021 competition due to her pregnancy, but she came back last year and reclaimed her spot at the top. The eater who benefitted the most from Sudo’s absence in 2021 was Michelle Lesco. Lesco won the competition, claiming her first Mustard Belt.

When Sudo does compete, though, Lesco (+900) has been unable to get past second place. Lesco has finished second to Sudo in four straight competitions. Sarah Rodriguez (+1600) rounds out the top three in the latest odds at BetUS.

Like Chestnut, Sudo is the clear eater to bet on here. She has dominated the Women’s division and should do so again this year. Sudo had a disappointing appearance by her standards last year, which should give her extra motivation this time around.

Prediction:

Miki Sudo wins the Women’s Hot Dog Eating Contest (-5000)

Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Prop Betting Odds

Both Joey Chestnut (-5000) and Miki Sudo (-5000) are heavy favorites to defend their Mustard Belts this year. Seeing greatness, even in competitive eating, can be very exciting to watch. It does not always offer great betting value, though.

On the bright side, BetUS has great props bets available for this year’s competition. Here are four prop wagers available for this year’s Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Will Any Records Be Broken?

The biggest question on many Hot Dog Eating Contest fans’ minds every year is whether any records will be broken. Both Chestnut and Sudo have broken their own records for hot dogs and buns eaten in recent years.

The current men’s record of 76 hot dogs and buns was set by Chestnut in 2021. Sudo set the women’s record of 48.5 hot dogs and buns in 2020. BetUS has prop bets available for both records.

Division Current Record Record to be Broken Record not broken
Men’s 76 +185 -280
Women’s 48.5 +200 -300

According to the latest Hot Dog Eating contest betting odds, neither record is favored to fall. However, I think both Chestnut and Sudo have a chance at making history.

Chestnut was injured last year and still consumed 63 hot dogs and buns. He should be fully healthy this year, which will make it easier to set a new record. The 39-year-old has been aiming for 77 hot dogs for a while, and this may be the year he finally hits the mark.

Sudo is also competing against her own personal best. As I mentioned above, she had a somewhat lackluster showing last year, finishing with just 40 hot dogs and buns consumed. I think that will motivate her to set a new personal and world record this time around.

Prediction:

The Men’s (+185) and Women’s (+200) records will be broken

How Many Hot Dogs Will Joey Chestnut Eat?

Even if you do not think Chestnut will have a record-setting performance, you can still wager on the reigning champion. BetUS has two over/under wagers available for Chestnut’s total number of hot dogs and buns eaten this year.

🤩🎉 My belt has arrived!! One of those is coming back to Florida… perhaps both!?!! 🤔 https://t.co/qtXuKmVyBG

— Miki Sudo ⭐️ (@OMGitsMIKI) June 27, 2023

The first has the over/under set at 63.5 hot dogs and buns. The over option is listed at -110, while the under is set at -130. Chestnut finished the 2022 competition with 63 hot dogs consumed, so you are betting whether

You can also place an over/under wager for a total of 76.5 hot dogs, which has the same odds as the prop above concerning the world record. To hit the over (+185), Chestnut would need to break the record. The payout for the under option is set at -280.

Of these wagers, the over/under 63.5 hot dogs is the safer option. Chestnut is much more likely to cover this bet than break his own record. But I would wager for Chest to have over 66.5 hot dogs because I do think he will break his own world record.

Prediction:

Joey Chestnut will eat over 76.5 hot dogs (+185)

Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo Total Combined Hot Dogs

BetUS also allows you to bet on both defending champions in one prop wager. You can wager on the total number of hot dogs that will be consumed by Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo in this year’s competition.

The total for this wager is set at over/under 116.5 hot dogs and buns. Both the over and the under have -120 payout odds.

For reference, Chestnut and Sudo combined for 103 hot dogs at last year’s event. Both competitors blew the competition away despite having down years by their standards. With both champions having renewed motivation this year, they should at least beat their marks from last year.

Chestnut and Sudo would both have to come close to their world records to cover the over in this bet. As I mentioned above, I do think that both eaters will come close to their records, and they may even break them. So, I would take the over in this wager.

Prediction:

Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo will combine for over 116.5 hot dogs (-120)

Head-to-Head: Nick Wehry vs. Miki Sudo

You can also place head-to-head prop wagers at BetUS. For example, you can bet on whether Nick Wehry or Miki Sudo will consume more hot dogs during their respective competitions. Wehry and Sudo have been in a relationship since 2018 and have one child together.

— Major League Eating (@eatingcontest) June 29, 2023

Both parts of this MLE power couple are likely to finish with more than 40 hot dogs eaten on the day. BetUS has Wehry (-130) as a slight favorite over Sudo (-110) in this prop wager.

I disagree with the oddsmakers on this one. It should be a close battle, but I think Sudo will be the one to eat more hot dogs during the competition.

Wehry’s over/under total is set at 47.5 hot dogs. If Sudo does break her world record, then she would need to eat at least 49 hot dogs. I think Sudo tops her personal best and beats Wehry in this prop wager.

Prediction:

Miki Sudo will eat more hot dogs than Nick Wehry (-110)
