ATP Finals Betting: Who wins at the O2?

The strangest of tennis seasons signs off at the O2 Arena this November as some of the biggest names in men’s tennis battle it out to win the 2020 ATP Finals.

Outside of the Grand Slams, the ATP Finals is the most prestigious tournament on the annual circuit.

It’s also one that can be wildly unpredictable too, producing five different winners since 2015.

Here’s our look at the main contenders to take this season’s title.

ATP Finals Betting Preview

Regrettably, it’s going to be a low-key end for London as the host of this tournament. The O2 Arena has been forced to welcome the world’s best players behind closed doors for one final time before the competition moves to its new home in Turin from 2021.

While tennis fans will have to settle for watching their favourite players from the comfort of their sofas, the tournament won’t be lacking in competitive edge, given this is the final chance for players to lift some silverware before the 2020 season signs off.

One notable aspect of this tournament compared to the Grand Slams is the fact it’s often anyone’s for the taking. The ‘big three’ of the sport – Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal – haven’t always hit their usual heights in the traditional end-of-year final. In fact, Federer has opted to skip this season’s competition entirely to conserve himself for a probable assault on the 2021 Australian Open.

Of those three, current World No. 1 Djokovic has enjoyed the best success in this tournament, winning five titles, albeit four of those were claimed during his trophy-winning peak between 2012 and 2015. Andy Murray ended the Serbian’s run in 2016 to usher in an unbroken era of first-time winners over the last half-decade.

Greek giant Stefanos Tsitsipas scooped the most eye-catching win of his career in 2019, winning 6-7 – 6-2 – 7-6 over Dominic Thiem, following in the footsteps of fellow maiden champions Grigor Dimitrov (2017) and Alexander Zverev (2018).

All three are back for a second crack at the title in 2020 and could once again be value in the ATP Finals outright betting in a tournament that looks wide open.

ATP Finals Betting Tips – The Contenders

NOVAK DJOKOVIC – 37/25

The Serb will be vying to end a five-year drought in this tournament and end a frustrating campaign on a high after a series of controversies following a bright start to the year at the Australian Open.

RAFAEL NADAL – 83/20

This tournament is a rare blot on the Spanish ace’s copybook, with the French Open champion still chasing his first ever career win in this competition. Could he be the chief beneficiary of an unusual build-up to this year’s finale?  He’s looking to notch a first win in nine attempts.

DANIIL MEDVEDEV – 21/5

Given first-time winners is a consistent theme in this tournament in recent times, the value could lie with the powerful Russian baseliner.  The 24-year old has posted decent form on hard courts in this campaign, first reaching the US Open semi-finals before hitting top form as a first-time champion at the Paris Masters.

DOMINIC THIEM – 39/5

The Austrian was arguably the most consistent performer in the Grand Slams this season, sealing the biggest win of his career in the US Open, and reaching the Australian Open final. He underperformed relative to recent years with a quarter-final exit at the rearranged French Open, but that blip aside, he should be a leading player here after reaching his first ATP Finals in 2019.

Who win’s this year’s ATP Finals?

ALEXANDER ZVEREV – 73/10

One of the crown princes of tennis looks to finally be realising his potential after his best year to date on the circuit. The 6ft 6in ace has impeccable credentials on the hard courts heading into this event, reaching the final of the US Open and semi-finals of the Australian Open. The 02 will bring back fond memories for the German too after his career-high win here in 2018.

ANDREY RUBIEV – 11/1

The joker in the pack? The 23-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable rise to prominence over the last 12 months and will be keen on making a splash on his ATP Finals debut. While he’s yet to make a major impression in the latter stages of Grand Slams, he has picked up five ATP titles in 2020 and can probably afford to treat this year’s tournament as a free hit. One to watch.

STEFANOS TSITSIPAS – 23/2

Finally, could Tsitsipas break with recent history by becoming the first back-to-back winner of this tournament since Djokovic in 2015? It’s been an up-and-down campaign for the powerful Greek as he underwhelmed in the Australian and US Opens, while posting his best ever performance on clay with a semi-final outing at Roland Garros. An unpredictable performer, a title defence will all depend on which Tsitsipas turns up.

DIEGO SCHWARTZMAN – 37/1

The late bloomer is the rank outsider in this competition, but at 28 years old, he’s enjoying the finest form of his career. The Argentinean reached his first ATP Masters 1000 final at the Italian Open as well as a first semi-final in the slams at the French Open.
