Gaming developer and manager Red Rock Resorts held on Friday a private ceremonial groundbreaking for the $750 million Durango Casino & Resort in Las Vegas. Following a record-breaking 2021, U.S. commercial gaming revenue in January reached $4.43 billion, the industry’s fastest-ever start to a year, according to American Gaming Association’s (AGA) Commercial Gaming Revenue Tracker. The tracker features state-by-state and nationwide financial performance data with breakdowns for individual gaming verticals, and the latest edition released Tuesday includes comparisons to January 2020, as COVID-19 continued to impact the commercial gaming revenue market in January 2021. As reported by Maryland Lottery and Gaming Thursday, the state’s sports betting handle totaled $25.5 million in February, the second full month of operations for the state’s first five sportsbooks.  The financial results for last month show a decrease in handle of $7 million compared to January’s total of $32.5 million. Detroit’s three casinos reported $94.7 million aggregate revenue in February, the Michigan Gaming Control Board announced on Thursday. Table games and slots generated $95.6 million in revenue, while retail sports betting results showed an $872,552 loss. Breaking down data by market shares found MGM Grand Detroit placing first with 49%, MotorCity Casino Hotel second with 30%, and Greektown Casino Hotel third, with a 21% share. The Macau government has pledged to clarify the role of gambling promoters in the world’s largest gambling hub through legislation, to be passed later this year. The plans were confirmed by Chan Chak Mo, president of the Second Standing Committee of the Legislative Assembly (AL).
