We’ve been following Seminole sports betting in Florida for several weeks. Recently, a Federal District Judge ruled the agreement between the two to be ‘invalid’, as it violated the state constitution and the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. However, after the ruling the Tribe continued to accept online sports wagers. Initially, the Seminoles filed a “motion for stay pending appeal” with the Federal District Court while they continued to accept bets. However, the Judge in this case refused to grant them an appeal and rejected their argument that shutting down sports bets would cause the Tribe irreparably harm from the ‘loss…

A Virginia judge issued a temporary injunction on Monday blocking the enforcement of a law that since July has banned a type of electronic betting machine, mostly referred to as “skill games”, that had proliferated in gas stations, bars and other small businesses around the state. The petition for this came from business owner and former NASCAR driver Hermie Sadler. After a hearing, the judge determined that the law was too vague and violated First Amendment rights. The new ruling puts the so-called skill game ban on hold until a trial set for May 18, 2022, said Bill Stanley, a…
Nascar is taking stronger steps to expand its sports betting initiatives ahead of the 2022 Cup Series season, and over a year after becoming the first league to partner with American Gaming Association. “Nascar partnered with the American Gaming Association and any betting issues we have, we work with them with limits and any other gambling things,” Joe Solosky, Nascar’s managing director of sports betting, told Forbes. “On the integrity side, we don’t want to compromise our integrity. The garage access could potentially expose the sport and we’ve seen this happen in other sports where athletes get in trouble.” Looking…
California’s Fresno City Council authorized Club One Casino to add an additional 20 card rooms, bringing the total to 51, at its new Granite Park location in northeast Fresno. City leaders say the casino met the requirements and requests made over the last 90 days. That time was also used to address concerns from people who live in the area. However, the delay drew criticism from Councilmember Garry Bredefeld. “I think you’ve been treated horrendously, atrociously, I suspect that no other business person that comes before this council gets treated like you did,” Bredefeld said, as reported by KFSN. But Tyler Maxwell,…
Macau’s gaming regulator has issued an instruction to junket operators to stop offering credit to their customers and requesting that chip purchases can only be done for upfront cash. The order from Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) would effectively bar all junkets from providing loan services to VIP gamblers. The notice comes following a Bloomberg report that Wynn Resorts and Melco Resorts would close their junket rooms by December 20 and December 21, respectively. ‘Some (if not all) other casino operators may also follow Wynn’s move with respect to the junket room operations,’ stated a note published by Sanford C. Bernstein. Wynn’s decision comes…
Slotegrator has released an ebook that takes a detailed look at Latin American markets from Mexico to Argentina where it analyzes the cultural, political, and economic climate of each country and evaluates its iGaming potential in order to help entrepreneurs and investors get their foot in the door before the markets are saturated. Chicago city is now proposing to impose its own 2% on gross revenues from sports betting, which would bring the total tax collected in the city to 19%, under a revised ordinance poised for City Council approval this week. Rush Street Gaming owner Neil Bluhm criticized the proposal, as he lobbies against legalizing sports betting in the city. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has argued there is no hard evidence allowing sportsbooks in and around five city stadiums would “cannibalize” revenue from a Chicago casino, which is Bluhm’s warning. Rush Street Gaming is part of two separate groups vying to build…
It’s difficult to believe that the CEO of a major sports betting operator would say something to alienate his existing and potential customers. Yet, that’s exactly what Jason Robins did while speaking on the Canaccord Genuity 2021 Digital Gaming Summit held virtually last week. His statements came amidst conversations concerning how operators could be profitable in New York state with a 51% tax rate, so I guess now we know how DraftKings hopes to make money in that market! Hello my friends! And welcome to This Week in Gambling, where we’re following an interesting bit of news. The CEO of…
Rajya Sabha —Council of States, or upper house of India’s parliament— member Sushil Kumar Modi has called on India’s government to regulate the online gaming industry. He raised the issue during the Zero Hour, which is the time during which Members of Parliament (MPs) can raise issues of urgent public importance. According to Modi, the rise of online games has now given way to gambling and betting, which he sees as potentially problematic among children who may get addicted to mobile games. The Rajya Sabha member thus demanded the government should regulate the online gaming industry while also imposing a…
