The Rhode Island Senate has approved legislation from President Dominick Ruggerio that would allow sports betting on in-state collegiate teams, something that has been prohibited since the legalization of sports betting in 2018. The new bill would allow betting on collegiate teams when participating in tournaments with four or more teams. Philippines gaming regulator PAGCOR is targeting industry-wide gross gaming revenues of $4.5 billion in 2023, supported by a faster-than-expected pandemic recovery following the re-opening of international borders last year.  The revised target, submitted to the Governance Commission for GOCCs as part of PAGCOR’s 2023 Performance Scorecard, comes after the Philippines-wide GGR of $3 billion in 2022 exceeded the agency’s initial estimates. Australian casino giant Crown Resorts revealed it has allegedly fallen victim to a data breach. The casino giant was recently contacted by a ransomware group that claims they illegally obtained a number of files.  A Crown Resorts spokesman said in a statement on Monday that the validity of the claim is being investigated as a matter of priority. The American Gaming Association (AGA) has announced updates to the association’s Responsible Marketing Code for Sports Wagering – which sets the industry standard for marketing and advertising of sports wagering – including increased protections for college-aged bettors and a ban on the use of the term “risk-free” promotion. The Australian Institute of Family Studies has revealed the extent of harm gambling is causing to the country in a new survey. The research showed most surveyed participants believed there were “too many opportunities to gamble” and shows a majority of Australians support banning gambling advertising on TV. The research found that 38% of the adult population gambled at least weekly. Three in four Australians gambled at least once during the past 12 months and, of those, almost half (46%) were classified as being at some risk of harm from wagering.
