The man responsible for sports betting in his state is back at work. Senator Joseph Addabbo has rolled out a New York online gambling bill that would regulate web based casino games, including slot machines. The bill also has provisions for live dealer and table games, as well as for online poker. In true New York fashion, however, Addabbo’s bill proposes a tax rate of over 30% to be imposed on operators. That’s about twice as much as the usual 15% in other states that have regulated internet casino games. But before we get ahead of ourselves, this bill has…

The alleged payments were made between 2015 and 2020, reports the Wall Street Journal. Under the settlement, Flutter neither admitted…

New Jersey casino workers’ ongoing push to ban indoor smoking at Atlantic City’s gaming venues continues to pick up steam, with many believing this will be the year that the loophole closes, as more lawmakers show their support for the plan. However, the situation seems to be sharply different in Nevada. Only a small number of casino operators have independently decided to provide their customers with smoke-free areas in the past three decades, and support for a ban doesn’t seem as clear as in NJ. While there could be a Nevada lawmaker who brings the issue to the Legislature, there…

It’s been about five years since the Supreme Court made the decision that opened up American sports betting. In that time we’ve gone from just one state with active, regulated sports betting to thirty-six. Not bad. Not bad at all! You can even find an updated, interactive map at the American Gaming Association. Now, if you live where it’s legal to bet on sports then you’re one of the lucky ones. There are still several across the country where you cannot place a bet on a sporting event legally. However, among the states where betting on sports remains unregulated there…
Native American tribes could expand their gambling operations in the US, including both retail and online betting, through new rules proposed by the federal government. Brought forward by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, these would ease rules for tribes to acquire land for casino development and enable them to negotiate iGaming deals with states. However, this move has sparked opposition from commercial gambling competitors and state and local government leaders concerned about losing out on tax revenues and having less input on where casinos are developed, according to comments submitted last week to the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Twenty Republican…

An Indiana bill to legalize online casino gambling has failed to gain traction in the Legislature for the third consecutive year, despite earlier optimism about its prospects. House Bill 1536, authored by Rep Ethan Manning, would have allowed lottery and online casino games on smartphones, tablets and desktop computers. But Manning, who chairs the House Public Policy Committee where the bill was assigned, ultimately decided not to schedule it for a committee hearing by the deadline, allowing the legislation to die. The northern Indiana lawmaker’s new post as committee chair had given some casino supporters hope the bill would advance,…
