A Georgia lawmaker has introduced a new bill that seeks to legalize mobile sports betting without the need for a constitutional amendment. House Bill 380, the “Georgia Lottery Game of Sports Betting Act,” would authorize the Georgia Lottery Corp. to operate and regulate sports wagering in the Peach State.  Under the proposal, revenue from the activity would go to educational programs under the Georgia Lottery, including the HOPE Scholarship and Pre-K education. A Virginia Senate panel has derailed Petersburg’s pursuit of a $1.4 billion casino project. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reported that preliminary figures show $84,313,189 was wagered in the Commonwealth through retail and online sportsbooks during this year’s Super Bowl LVII. That was a 24% increase over the $68,044,810 wagers last year. After payouts, revenue is expected to be $29,722,902 compared to $4,575,339 in 2022. In the two weeks that sports betting has been legally active in Massachusetts, all three casinos that were approved to take sports wagers have violated the Commonwealth’s ban on in-state collegiate sports betting.  Two casinos – Plainridge Park Casino and Encore Boston Harbor – were found in violation last week. New York state Sen. Joseph Addabbo introduced on Wednesday bill S4856, which seeks to legalize online casino gaming, including slots, table games, and live dealer games. The bill includes a 30.5% iGaming tax rate. Most states average 15% to 18% for their iGaming tax rates.  Despite the bill’s introduction, it faces an uphill battle for passage. Gov. Atlantic City casino workers pushing for a smoking ban received support from several state lawmakers on Monday at a hearing on a bill that would put an end to indoor smoking at the destination’s nine properties.  Casino employees testified before a state Senate panel in favor of a law that would close a loophole in the state’s 2006 indoor smoking law, which was written specifically to exempt casinos from the ban.
