Casino-entertainment giant Bally’s Corporation announced Monday that its CEO, Lee Fenton, will step down after a year and a half in the role. He will be replaced by President of Interactive Robeson Reeves, effective March 31, 2023. Fenton became CEO of Bally’s on October 1, 2021, following the acquisition of Gamesys Group, where he had been CEO since 2015. Fenton will also step down from the Board of Directors. After years of lobbying, a proposed law that would ban smoking inside Atlantic City casinos will see State lawmakers hold the first public hearing on the bipartisan bill on Monday. The proposal would close a 17-year loophole that has allowed casinos to have smoking sections despite a ban in indoor spaces set in 2006. There will not be a vote on the proposal at the hearing hosted by the state Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee. Geolocation services provider GeoComply announced it conducted a record 100 million geolocation checks across 23 US states and the District of Columbia with legal online sports betting during Super Bowl LVII weekend. Just over a month after Ohio’s sports betting launch, state Governor Mike De Wine is seeking to double the tax rate from 10% to 20%, an increase included in his biennial executive budget proposal for the 2024-25 fiscal years.  The budget doubles the tax on sports betting to be paid by casinos and teams running sportsbooks with mobile companies. Resorts developer and manager Mohegan Gaming has announced financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2023. For the three-month period ended December 31, the gaming arm of the Mohegan Tribe posted net revenue of $406.6 million, marking a 1.2% increase when compared to the same quarter the previous year. Income from operations nearly doubled year-over-year, climbing to $70.2 million. Adjusted EBITDA during Q1 grew by 3.8% and reached $101.1 million. State gambling regulators signed off on Thursday the initial steps toward the opening of Chicago’s first casino, voting in favor of a license for Medinah Temple to serve as the home of a temporary gambling hall that developer Bally’s hopes to open by June. The permanent building, to open its doors in 2026, will be built west of the Chicago River on the site of the Chicago Tribune’s Freedom Center printing plant. Under a new initiative by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, online gaming platforms will be using data in an attempt to tackle potential cases of problem gambling. The new methods provide users with targeted outreach to help them choose options to address possible gambling addictions. David Cordish, CEO and chairman of The Cordish Companies, has announced plans to expand the Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland in Anne Arundel County, for the third time since it opened in 2012. On Thursday, the Hawaii Senate’s Committee on Commerce and Consumer Protection approved a bill that would ban casino advertising in the state. The proposal was amended to remove references to Nevada resort properties, including Las Vegas-based Boyd Gaming, which for decades has run a business to attract Hawaiians to Sin City. It seems that sports bets in the Keystone State are not enough for at least one legislator there. Representative Ed Neilson believes that Pennsylvania esports betting will be the next big money maker, and that the activity could quickly be legalized and regulated there. Unionized workers from Hollywood Casino Toledo and its sister facility in Columbus, Ohio, have yet to settle on a new contract, as their previous agreement expired at the end of last year.
