best-super-bowl-55-bets-for-kansas-city-chiefs-fans

On February 7th, Super Bowl 55 will be live from Tampa Bay featuring Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs looking to repeat as world champions as they take on Tom Brady and the hometown Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This game is getting worldwide attention not only for being the Super Bowl, but also because of the epic matchup between the greatest QB of all-time Tom Brady taking on the best player in the NFL and the one QB who could surpass Brady when it’s all said and done – Patrick Mahomes.

In addition to the media coverage, Super Bowl betting sites have hundreds of Super Bowl 55 bets to wager on. Let’s huddle up to examine some of the best bets for Kansas City Chiefs fans.

Will Kansas City Score in the 1st Quarter?

  • Yes (-325)
  • No (+250)

The Chiefs started off the season not scoring in the first quarter of their first two games. They would finish the season scoring in the opening quarter for 12 of the 16 games. Their wins against Miami and Atlanta later in the year saw the Chiefs start off being shutout in the 1st quarter.

In the Playoffs, the Chiefs scored in the 1st quarter against the Browns, but were blanked in the opening quarter of the AFC title game against the Bills.

When the Chiefs played the Buccaneers in Week 12, Kansas City scored 17 points in the first quarter behind a monster opening frame by wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

For the season, KC averaged 4.6ppg in the 1st quarter of home games and 6.8ppg in the 1st quarter of away games.

I expect the Chiefs to come out and score on their first drive considering this is the Super Bowl, the offense is on a roll, and the Bucs have a weak secondary.

Total Points by Kicker Harrison Butker

  • Under 8.5 Pts (-130)
  • Over 8.5 Pts (+100)

At first glance, 8.5 points seemed low for Harrison Butker who finished the season with 123 points. However, when you break it down, that’s just 7.6ppg.

During the regular season, Butker scored over 8.5 points on five occasions. In the Playoffs, he scored Over 8.5 points against the Browns, but only scored 8 points against the Bills.

Against Tampa during the regular season, Butker had 9 points.

This bet could really go either way, but I like the value with Over 8.5 points. With the way the Chiefs offense is rolling during the postseason, I can see Butker kicking three extra points and two field goals.

Take the Over with this prop bet as the Chiefs are pegged to score Over 30 points for the game.

Will There be an Onside Kick Attempt?

  • No (-215)
  • Yes (+175)

We saw an onside kick in the AFC Championship game and it was successfully executed by the Bills. However, for an onside kick to take place, one team has to be down by at least two scores which means a minimum of 9 to 10 points late in the game.

So, this question comes down to whether or not you believe one team will have a double digit lead with only a few minutes left in the game. I don’t see that happening. I believe this will be a tight contest, which should come down to a late game score.

Go with the “No” option for this prop bet as it could be one of the easier wagers to win on. And, no matter which team you are rooting for in the Super Bowl, we all want to win our wagers.

Andy Reid Mask Design

  • Chiefs branded/logo (-1000)
  • Single color/no logo (-350)
  • Hawaiian-themed (-500)

Andy Reid has been the butt of many jokes throughout the season regarding his choice for facial wear. From masks to the windshield, Reid has definitely turned covid protocols into a fashionable disaster.

With that said, this prop bet assumes that Reid will stick with a mask and not go back to the face shield. In the AFC Championship game, he wore a mask that had the Chiefs brand all over it.

There’s no reason to think otherwise. Whether it’s an actual mask or a bandana, or something in between, Reid’s choice of facial wear will feature the Kansas City Chiefs brand on it.

In fact, you can expect all players and coaches to have facial wear with their team’s branding. This is the Super Bowl and it’s the most watched game of the year. The NFL will want to have all parties following covid rules and featuring their team’s brand.

Although there’s no value for this prop bet, it’s more of a fun one that should be an easy win.

Pick: Chiefs Branded

Odds: -1000

Coach to be Mentioned 1st After Kickoff

  • Andy Reid (-120)
  • Bruce Arians (-120)

This prop bet will most certainly come down to whichever team receives the kickoff. Typically, once the team receives the ball, the commentators start talking about the team and that usually begins with the head coach and trickles down to the quarterback.

So, we can approach this prop bet with that perspective or take a guess ahead of time. I prefer to take a guess and I think it will be Andy Reid who’s mentioned first.

I see the commentators talking about how Reid and the Chiefs are trying to win their second Super Bowl. That should come before Bruce Arians trying to win his 1st Super Bowl.

Let’s take “Big Red” for this Super Bowl LV prop bet.

Pick: Andy Reid

Odds: -120

Super Bowl MVP Winning Position

  • QB (-350)
  • WR (+375)
  • TE (+800)
  • Any Defensive Position (+900)
  • RB (+900)
  • K (+6600)

Let’s take a look at the breakdown of MVPs by position:

  • Quarterbacks – 30
  • Defense – 9
  • Running backs – 7
  • Wide Receivers – 7
  • KR – 1
  • K – 0

As you can see, the QB position has won the most MVP awards. This position has won seven of the last 10 Super Bowl MVPs. Furthermore, Mahomes won this award last year and Brady has won the SB MVP four times.

No running back has won since Terrell Davis in 1998. Julian Edelman was the last WR to win the award when he did it two years ago. Von Miller was the last defender to win this trophy which came in SB 50. No kicker has ever won the Super Bowl MVP award.

For this bet, with Brady and Mahomes in the game, you have to go with QB. In fact, I am surprised the odds aren’t more in favor like at least -500 instead of just -350.

Super Bowl MVP Odds

  • Patrick Mahomes (KC) (-125)
  • Tom Brady (TB) (+225)
  • Tyreek Hill (KC) (+1000)
  • Travis Kelce (KC) (+1200)
  • Mike Evans (TB) (+2800)
  • Chris Godwin (TB) (+3300)
  • Leonard Fournette (TB) (+3300)
  • Antonio Brown (TB) (+5000)
  • Clyde Edwards-Helaire (KC) (+5000)

As mentioned above, the Super Bowl MVP award typically goes to a quarterback. So, that means we’re looking at Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady as the favorites for this award. Before we talk about them, let’s examine two other players that could also win this award:

Tyreek Hill (+1000)

Tyreek Hill is the most dynamic receiver in the NFL. For the season, Hill finished with 1,276 yards and 15 TDs in 15 games. Yet, his success didn’t just stop there. In fact, Hill has been even more dangerous in the postseason.

In two Playoff games, Hill is averaging 8.5 receptions for 141 ypg. He went over the 100 yard mark in both postseason games along with posting 172 yards in the AFC Championship game.

He is the one player that has the best chance of knocking off a QB for the MVP Award. Let’s also not forget that Hill put up 269 yards and 3 TDs on 13 catches against Tampa Bay in Week 12.

Travis Kelce (+1200)

Kelce proved once again that he is the best TE in the NFL. He finished with 105 receptions for 1,416 yards and 11 TDs in 15 games.

In the postseason, Kelce averaged 10.5 rpg, 113.5 ypg, and 1.5 TDs per game. He had a monster AFC title game where he tallied 118 yards and 2 TDs on 13 catches. That would’ve earned him this MVP award if he did it in the Super Bowl.

In Week 12, Kelce put up 82 yards on 8 catches against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Who Wins the SB MVP Award: Brady or Mahomes?

Despite the outside chances of Kelce and Hill, this year’s SB 55 MVP award will go to either Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes.

As mentioned above, Tom Brady has won four Super Bowl MVPs which is the all-time mark. Patrick Mahomes won last year’s award and is looking to capture his second straight MVP and joining an exclusive club of players with two or more Super Bowl MVPs.

The winner of this award will come down to whichever team wins the game. Both quarterbacks will put up great numbers, so it will be the winning QB that gets the MVP award.

With that in mind, I am taking Mahomes to win the Super Bowl 55 MVP award because I believe the Chiefs will win the big game. There’s solid value with Mahomes at -125 odds.

Pick: Patrick Mahomes

Odds: -125

What Will Be Said/Mentioned 1st

  • Mahomes will be a father/daddy/having a kid (-150)
  • Mahomes is engaged/getting married (+110)

Here’s an interesting prop bet for Chiefs fans. The bet comes down to what the CBS announcers will mention first regarding Mahomes’ life. Will they mention that he’s engaged or having a kid first?

We’ve heard about Mahomes being engaged and all the different things he’s done for his fiancé. So, I believe that Tony Romo and Jim Nantz will talk about Mahomes becoming a father first.

It’s the more recent celebrity gossip that social media and NFL outlets have been talking about, so it makes sense that the commentators will bring this up first. Plus, Romo often brings up something about his kids when calling a game.

The value isn’t quite there with the father option, but it’s the more likely one to occur first.

Patrick Mahomes 1st Passing Attempt

  • Complete (-225)
  • Incomplete (+180)
  • Interception (+1800)

With only six interceptions on the year, it’s safe to say that Mahomes’ first pass in the Super Bowl will not be an interception.

On the season, Mahomes completed 66% of his passes. Against the Bucs in Week 12, he completed 75.5% of his passes. That was his second best mark for the 2020 regular season.

Most in a single game since 2015 pic.twitter.com/3pkk7wznEO

— PFF (@PFF) January 26, 2021

In the Playoffs, Mahomes has surpassed his season average by completing 70% of his passes against the Browns and 76% of his passes against the Bills.

After looking at these numbers, there’s no way we can take any other option than for Mahomes to complete his first passing attempt of the Super Bowl. He’s not going to be nervous. And the coaches won’t have to call an easy pass to complete.

Pick: Completion

Odds: -225

$100 Could Win You…$144.44

1st Half Touchdowns by Kansas City

  • Over 1.5 Touchdowns (-165)
  • Under 1.5 Touchdowns (+135)

For the 2020 season, the Chiefs averaged 15.7ppg in the first half with 15.1ppg at home and 16.5ppg on the road. That was down from their 2019 mark of 17.2ppg in the first half.

In their last three games, the Chiefs averaged 18ppg in the opening half. Against Buffalo in the AFC title game, the Chiefs put up 21 points in the first half.

Against the Bucs on November 29th, Kansas City put up 20 points in the first half as they were buoyed by 17 points in the 1st quarter.

So, this bet comes down to whether or not you think the Chiefs will score two TDs in the first half. I happen to believe that they will. It’s hard to bet against their explosive offense.

Pick: Over 1.5 TDs

Odds: -165
