The long-awaited showdown between veterans Carlos Condit and Matt Brown could finally be taking place early next year.
According to a report from MMAFighting, the UFC is trying to book that flight for their January 30, 2021 event. The UFC has yet to confirm or announce the fight but sources are saying that both fighters have already agreed to it verbally.
Third Time’s the Charm?
This isn’t the first time that the UFC tried to make this fight happen. It can be recalled that they were slated to fight each other at UFC on Fox 9 in December 2013 but Brown suffered a back injury and had to pull out of the fight. They were once again penciled to face each other at UFC on Fox 29 in April 2018 but once again, the fight didn’t push through because Brown tore his ACL.

Condit went on to face Alex Oliveira and was submitted in the second round. That was the fourth in a string of five straight losses for the Natural Born Killer from January 2016 to December 18. Condit was supposed to return against Mickey Gall in December 2018 but he suffered a detached retina and the fight was canceled.
Last October 4th, Condit finally returned to the Octagon after a 22-month absence. He upset Court McGee as a +122 betting underdog at UFC Fight Island 4 in Abu Dhabi. The 36-year old Condit is just 3-7 since losing to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 154 when they fought for the undisputed welterweight title. He got a second crack at a world title in 2016 but lost via split decision to Robbie Lawler. Condit is 31-13 with 15 knockouts and 3 submission wins.
Getting Back on Track
Meanwhile, Brown is trying to get back on track after his two-fight winning streak was snapped when he was knocked out by Miguel Baeza at UFC on ESPN 8 last May. Prior to that loss, the Immortal recorded back to back knockouts Diego Sanchez and Ben Saunders.

Like Condit, the 39-year old Brown is trying to extend his UFC career. The Jamestown, Ohio native is just 3-6 in his last nine bouts. Brown has never fought for the UFC title and the closest he was to winning gold was in 2014 when he fought Robbie Lawler in a title eliminator.
Brown missed weight and lost the fight via unanimous decision. The Immortal has a record of 22-17 with 14 knockouts and six wins via submission.
After Condit’s win last month, Brown called out Condit to settle their unfinished business. Condit responded by saying “fair enough” to Brown’s social media post. But the Natural Born Killer also told reporters to “bubble wrap” Matt Brown so that he will make it to the fight.
Prolific Finishers
Condit and Brown are two of the UFC’s most exciting fighters and prolific finishers. Condit’s 90% stoppage rate ( 28 of 31 wins ) is slightly lower than Brown’s 92% finishing rate (22 of 24 wins). These two are at the tail end of their respective careers but despite falling into hard times as of late, they have never failed to deliver fights that fans want to see, combining for 13 post fight bonuses.
Both are currently unranked and this fight doesn’t have any title implications. However, these are two sure-fire Hall of Famers and fans would love to see both go out on a blaze of glory. This isn’t necessarily the final fight for either fighter but the loser of this fight should be pushed to the brink.
The January 30 event is temporarily called UFC on ESPN +46 or UFC Fight Night 188. The venue has yet to be determined and the main event has not been announced although four other bouts have been confirmed. One thing is sure though, that event won’t lack fireworks if Condit and Brown both make it to fight night so make sure to get in on the betting action at the best UFC betting sites.
