In a recent report released by the Colombian gaming regulator, Coljuegos, the authorities assure that currently “there are 17 operators authorized by Coljuegos and, up to August 2022, there is a report of 7,004,174 user accounts.”
“Internet-operated games have had positive growth in the last years. In fact, in 2020 they closed with bets close to 8 billion pesos ($1.6 billion) and, by 2021, 16 billion pesos ($3.3 billion); in 2022 so far, Internet bets are reported amounting to 21 billion pesos ($4.3 billion), and it is expected to reach 26 billion pesos ($5.4 billion) in a positive scenario for this sector, such as the Qatar 2022 World Cup”, they highlighted, adding that “of this total amount of bets, the average return in prize money to the public is estimated at 94%.”
Coljuegos estimates that “for the year 2022, they expect to collect for operation rights of this type of games a figure close to 248,000 million pesos ($51.3 million)”.
“At the closing of October 2022, the games operated by Internet have generated resources from exploitation rights for the amount of 194,000 million pesos (a little more than $40 million), which compared to the same period of the previous year shows an increase of 34%, these resources are destined to the fulfillment of the prevailing social purpose of the monopoly, which is the financing of the health of Colombians”.
