The sport of boxing is expected to feature a number of highly-exciting matchups over the next few years. Perhaps none is as intriguing as the third fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. This week, the world received an update on the location for Fury vs. Wilder 3.
These two men have competed in two extremely interesting fights in the past. The rubber match will prove to be a pivotal moment in each man’s career. Today, we’re going to talk about what promoters might have planned for this bout.
Let’s get into it!
Controversy Surrounds the Second Fight Between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder
Boxing’s heavyweight division is more competitive right now than perhaps ever before in history. That’s an incredible thing to say when looking back at the division over the years. It’s hard to deny that more fighters are capable of becoming the unified champ right now than when both Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson were competing.
One of the main issues has been getting the top heavyweights to compete with each other. It’s an issue that’s plagued boxing for years. Two of the only heavyweight champions that seem willing to fight are Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.
These two boxers first competed back in December of 2018. It proved to be one of the best heavyweight fights in history. In the end, the judges declared the contest a split draw. A little over two years later, they competed in a rematch. Fans around the world flocked to different online sportsbooks to bet on the possible outcomes.
This time around, Tyson Fury beat Wilder from pillar to post. Controversy immediately started to creep into the media. Some members of Deontay’s team told the media they felt that Tyson Fury tampered with his gloves to make them harder.
It’s a serious accusation against one of the sport’s most respected fighters. As of now, no official ruling has been made against Fury. It seems they’ll settle their dispute for a third time sometime in the near future.
We’re now starting to hear about where this fight could take place.
Frank Warren Offers an Update on the Location for Fury vs. Wilder 3
Deontay Wilder officially decided to utilize his rematch clause shortly after the rematch with Tyson Fury. Initially, hope was that the third fight between these two men would take place in the summer of 2020. For obvious reasons, this fight did not come together.
That doesn’t mean this fight is being scrapped altogether. Both Fury and Wilder have told the media that they only plan on fighting each other. Several reports seem to indicate they will be competing this December.
Frank Warren, Tyson Fury’s promoter, has just offered some unique insight into the location for Fury vs. Wilder 3. He claims both parties are interested in hosting the fight outside both the US and the UK. It’s a massive change to what was initially being considered at the start of the year.
“Wilder and Fury was the highest grossing fight to ever take place in Vegas. We just can’t lose that gate. It’s a huge amount of money. We need the gate,” Warren said. “Or we come up with a scenario where there is a huge site fee from a territory to take it, and we use it to promote their country. We are looking at those situations.”
This wouldn’t be the strangest thing to happen in boxing. Not long ago, the massive rematch between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz took place in Saudi Arabia. Promoters are sometimes offered large sums of money by country leaders to host fights in other parts of the world.
Fans in the US and the UK have to be disappointed to hear this news, though. No one expects massive crowds to be allowed at fights anytime soon. Unless things change, we may see this massive trilogy fight take place outside of each fighter’s home country.
Odds For the Fury-Wilder Trilogy Are Now Available Online!
Major boxing events officially resumed back in June. Since that time, boxing betting has grown extremely popular all around the world. There are now a huge number of sites offering fantastic odds on all the big fights.
Our team loves Bovada. Right now, this site is offering some incredible odds on several upcoming heavyweight fights. That includes the trilogy fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder expected to come this December.
As we just mentioned, Tyson Fury dominated the second matchup. It seems the oddsmakers seem to feel that he’ll do it again in the rubber match. Bovada currently lists Tyson as the -325 heading into the third fight.
Deontay Wilder might be the hardest hitter in the history of boxing. Of his 42 wins, 41 have come via knockout. He just needs one of his power punches to land against Fury to get the win. He’s currently listed as the +250 underdog to do so, though.
We’re likely to hear more information on the location for Fury vs. Wilder 3 sometime soon. There are several possible options that promoters seem to be looking at. Stay tuned for updates!
