September was just the third month of operation for Illinois sports betting, and over 90% of the bets came from mobile devices. The state has seen amazing and steady growth ever since it began regulating the activity in March.
Some industry analysts estimate Illinois could even compete with Nevada sports gambling revenue within just the next few years. The Illinois Gaming Board released the September report last week but has yet to release figures for October.
Sportsbooks in the state came out on top by about $11 million on bets that were settled in September, generating about $1 million in state tax revenue with another $82,000 going to Cook County government. The industry has generated about $3 million in tax revenue in its first three full months.
