The Indian Gaming Association (IGA) has elected new officers to its Board of Directors during the 2026 Indian Gaming Tradeshow & Convention.
Tehassi Hill has been chosen as Vice Chairman, and Michell Hicks will serve as Treasurer. Both officers will hold two-year terms representing tribal governments across Indian Country.
Hill, serving his third term as Chairman of the Oneida Nation, brings a strong record in cultural preservation, environmental stewardship, and tribal sovereignty advocacy. Following the swearing-in ceremony, Hill emphasized unity and forward momentum for tribal communities.
“We must stay focused on the challenges ahead while continuing to share the story of our success,” said Hill. “It is critical that we stand together and build unity as a strong force for our tribal nations. I will work diligently to serve all of you and ensure we continue moving forward in a sustainable and responsible way for our communities.”
Hicks, a certified public accountant and principal chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, has guided her tribe through substantial economic growth and strategic development, overseeing a population of more than 15,000 citizens.
“There are many challenges in front of us, including the expansion of illegal markets that threaten our industry,” she said. “Addressing these issues will take strategy, resources, and a unified effort, and I am committed to that work alongside all of you.”
IGA Chairman David Z. Bean welcomed the new leadership, emphasizing their experience and integrity as essential at a pivotal moment for tribal gaming.
“Today’s election reflects the strength of our tribal leadership and the unity of our membership,” he said. “Vice Chairman Hill and Treasurer Hicks bring the experience, integrity, and commitment needed to help guide this organization forward.”
Bean further said the appointments come as the tribal industry faces challenges such as illegal prediction market activity and federal overreach. The strengthened leadership team is expected to play a key role in the mission to protect tribal sovereignty and ensure the future of Indian gaming.
The new officers join the IGA Board as tribal leaders advance a unified national agenda focused on protecting tribal gaming integrity, defending sovereignty, and strengthening tribal economies.
“We move forward together, carrying the responsibility to protect what our ancestors built and to ensure that tribal government gaming continues to serve our people for generations to come,” Bean said.
