Estrada vs Gonzalez I
The first fight between these two took place in November 2012 and it was hailed as an instant classic. Fans and pundits were clamoring for a rematch as the two put on a very dramatic 12 round war.
Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez came away with the unanimous decision victory as he appeared to do more damage after landing more punches and throwing more combinations all fight long.
Gonzalez paced himself by starting off slowly and then picked it up as the bout went on. In the end, you could see that he was the fresher fighter and the clear winner.
Estrada vs Gonzalez II
It took eight years, but we’re finally getting to see this rematch and the expectations are high that these all-action fighters will put on a great sequel.
After his loss to Chocolatito, Estrada went on to win 10 fights in a row before losing in 2018 to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. He would get revenge on Rungvisai in 2019 and capture the WBC super flyweight title.
Ironically, Runvisai ended Gonzalez’s run as a pound for pound best by defeating him twice in 2017. That also snapped Chocolatito’s 12 fight win streak.
It should be noted that Srisaket Sor Rungvisai is the #1 contender for the WBC title but agreed to step aside so that these two could have a rematch.
He’s guaranteed a title shot in the fall against the winner and could also benefit by getting the chance to fight for the WBA belt as well.
Gonzalez captured the WBA super flyweight title last year by defeating Khalid Yafai via 9th round TKO. He proved that he still has enough left in the tank and that the talk of him being washed up was unfounded.
As long as there isn’t a draw, one of these men will be walking away with two world titles.
Who Wins the Rematch?
In their first fight, Gonzalez was the better boxer at that time. He was a more complete fighter and at the top of his game.
This time around, I believe that Estrada is the better overall fighter. The great thing about these two, is that they won’t have to chase after each other. Both men will stand in the middle of the ring and go toe to toe, fist to fist, and see who is left standing.
Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez fought in 19 title fights and won 17 of them [lost twice to Srisaker Sor Rungvisai]

Gonzalez has won four straight fights and the WBA super flyweight title after dropping two in a row to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. Three of those four wins were via TKO including the impressive win over Yafai.
Estrada has won five straight fights including capturing the WBC super flyweight title from Rungvisai nearly two years ago. His last two wins have come via TKO.
It really is hard picking between these two, but I have to go with Estrada. Both men know what to expect from each other, but I see the 30 year old Mexican fighter outworking Gonzalez this time around and taking the decision win.
Either way, get your popcorn ready because this is going to be a war.
