Lucky Club in North Las Vegas will reopen its doors as Ojos Locos Sports Cantina y Casino next week. The renovated and rebranded property claims to be the first Latino-focused hotel-casino in the country, and intends to welcome guests as of February 6.
The 90-room hotel will also debut its new branding as Hotel Jefe. As stated in a press release, it is still undergoing its renovation process, with 40% of the rooms completed. The remainder is scheduled to be finished by the end of the year.
A major component of the rebrand is owner Fifth Street Gaming’s partnership with Ojos Locos Sports Cantina, a Dallas-based sports bar chain with restaurants in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. The relationship resulted in an Ojos Locos Sports Cantina being placed at the center of the 10,000-square-foot casino with a capacity of nearly 300 people, according to the release.
Laura Caudillo, vice president of growth at Ojos Locos Sports Cantina, said in a statement that the company looks forward to “welcoming the Latino community with our excellent service, delicious food and fun-filled atmosphere.”
“We are excited and honored to collaborate with Fifth Street Gaming on this flagship location, allowing us to bring the first-ever Ojos gaming experience to market,” Caudillo added.
The casino at 3227 Civic Center Dr., near the Cheyenne Avenue exit of Interstate 15, will have 200 slot and gaming machines, 35 seats at the restaurant’s video poker bar and 90 TVs throughout the property, according to the release.
Seth Schorr, CEO of Fifth Street Gaming, said: “After two years of planning and collaboration, we are overjoyed to introduce this new gaming and entertainment destination catering the Latino community.”
“We are grateful to Ojos Locos for joining us in this endeavor and to our valued customers whose enthusiasm inspired us to create a development just for them,” Schorr added.
The renovation project broke ground back in September, in a ceremony that included guests such as North Las Vegas Councilwoman Pamela Goynes-Brown, and representatives from the Las Vegas Latino Chamber of Commerce.
Schorr noted it is estimated that 28% of the state of Nevada and 18.7% of the United States identify as Latino. “This one-of-a-kind property will be the first time a company has opened a space for this massive, yet underserved population,” he said at the time. “The other unique feature of this property is that the sportsbook, sports bar, and restaurant will all be in one layout and won’t be separate entities.”
Last year, Yogonet held an exclusive interview with Schorr on Fifth Street Gaming’s plans for Las Vegas and the launch of the Latino-oriented JefeBet brand. “We have made it a priority to authentically cater to our Hispanic and Latino audience in everything we do,” Schorr said.
