BetOnline.ag has boosted the odds of three different scenarios. There’s plenty of upside if you get the pick right, so these tend to be worth your while if you can identify the best option. Which is the best odds boost bet for Tuesday, August 25?
MLB: Rays, Indians, Dodgers ALL To Win (+290)
Yesterday’s MLB odds boost was a parlay on the Cardinals, Rays, and Diamondbacks all to win at +325, but the Rays and D-Backs failed to hold up their ends of the bargain. Today we’ve got the Rays again, as they will have ace Tyler Glasnow on the mound at home tonight against the Baltimore Orioles. The Indians, meanwhile, will have Shane Bieber toeing the rubber against the Minnesota Twins, while Julio Urias and the Dodgers will face the Giants in San Francisco.
The Rays are the biggest moneyline favorites on the board at -215, per BetOnline’s current odds. The Tribe are sizable -162 favorites with Bieber on the mound. The Twins are one of the most powerful lineups in baseball, but Bieber has been the most dominant starter in the game early on in 2020. Meanwhile, the Dodgers are listed at -205 to pick up the win over the rival Giants later tonight.
We mentioned yesterday that the unpredictable nature of baseball makes betting on one big moneyline favorite risky enough. Betting on three to get a result on the same day multiplies the risk, but that risk is baked into the boosted +290 odds.
I’d say Glasnow and the Rays are a near-lock to beat Baltimore, but the other two aspects of this bet give me some concern. Minnesota’s thunderous lineup is definitely capable of getting to a homer-prone pitcher like Bieber. In the nightcap, the Dodgers will be throwing a vulnerable lefty in Urias to the mound in a ballpark that has been quite a bit more hitter-friendly this season. The Dodgers have also had a very limited amount of against Johnny Cueto across their first two head-to-head meetings on the season.
NHL: Bruins (+1.5) and Canucks (+1.5) BOTH to Win (+170)
We had a pair of betting upsets last night when the Stars and Islanders beat the Avalanche and Flyers pretty easily. Tonight, the Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks will look to do the same.
The Bruins are up 1-0 in their Eastern Conference series after picking up a 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1. The Lightning haven’t been the most impressive betting favorite over the past couple of years in the playoffs, and Boston did finish the regular season eight points ahead of Tampa in the standings. Even so, the Lightning are still the odds-on favorites to lift the Stanley Cup at season’s end.
These teams are generally pretty evenly-matched, which makes this series arguably the most compelling of any matchup we have in this round.
Boston went just 1-3 against Tampa Bay in the regular season.
The Vegas Golden Knights aren’t far behind Tampa Bay, though, and Vegas will be looking to go up 2-0 in the series after beating the Canucks 5-0 in Game 1. The Golden Knights cruised past the Blackhawks in the first round in five games, and they seem to be hitting their stride at the right time.
Vancouver took six games to get past the reigning champion Blues in round one, and they’re clearly facing a tall order against a superior Vegas side. The Knights are -203 favorites to win Game 2, while the Lightning and Bruins are each at -105.
NBA: Mavericks +6.5 and Over 114.5 Implied Team Total (+325)
The Mavericks won Game 4 over the LA Clippers in dramatic fashion, with Luka Doncic nailing a three-pointer at the buzzer to give Dallas an unexpected 135-133 overtime victory. The series is now tied 2-2, but oddsmakers still favor the Clippers to advance into the conference semis ultimately.
The Mavs were shorthanded in Game 4, as Kristaps Porzingis was a late scratch with a knee injury. Dallas has already ruled Porzingis out of Tuesday’s Game 5, so an awful lot of responsibility will once again fall onto the shoulders of Doncic. Doncic is dealing with his own issues, as he was forced to leave Game 3 early with a left ankle sprain.
Luka looked no worse for the wear in Game 4, though, finishing with 43 points, 17 rebounds, and 13 assists in 46 minutes of action. The Mavs also got huge performances out of Trey Burke (25 points) and Tim Hardaway Jr. (21 points), which proved useful with Porzingis sidelined.
The Clippers’ defensive intensity just wasn’t there in Game 4, but I’d imagine the buzzer-beater and the series now being tied will be a wake-up call. You have to get Dallas to cover and hit the over 114.5 points in this game for this bet to cash. The Mavs have been one of the most prolific offensive teams in NBA history this season, but the offense takes a hit with Porzingis out of the picture.
The Mavs have scored 110, 127, 122, and 135 in the four games thus far.
What’s The Best Bet?
I’m going to eliminate the NHL odds boost right away, as I’m not at all convinced in the Canucks’ ability to even the series with the Golden Knights. Lightning-Bruins is a virtual toss-up, but I don’t trust Vancouver to hold up its end of the bargain. Pass on the NHL bet at +170.
I’d be surprised if the Mavericks managed to win Game 5 tonight, but they don’t have to do that for you to win this bet. As long as they can keep the game close in what should be a high-scoring affair, there’s decent value to be found here at +325.
You need three games to go your way with the baseball bet. That makes things a bit tricky, but it helps that all three teams you need to win are pretty heavy moneyline favorites. The Dodgers have been the hottest team in baseball. Bieber is the hottest pitcher in baseball. And the Rays should have little trouble against the Orioles with Glasnow on the mound.
Because I could see the Clips running away with Game 5 against the shorthanded Mavs, I think the baseball three-way result is the best way to go with BetOnline’s boosted odds tonight. Take the Rays, Indians, and Dodgers all to win at +290.
