As Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians said, what Tom Brady has accomplished is historic but if there’s one player who could replicate or even top Brady’s achievements, it’s Patrick Mahomes.
Brady holds the record for most passing TDs in the history of the NFL with 581. Mahomes’ 118 touchdowns in his first 46 games are the best start for any quarterback in history. Brady’s 230 QB wins is 44 more than Brett Favre and Peyton Manning for most ever in the NFL Mahomes’ current winning percentage of .826 is the highest by any QB since 1950. Mahomes led the Chiefs to victory at Super Bowl LIV and won his first Super Bowl MVP award last year. Brady has six Lombardi and four Pete Rozelle trophies.
But the comparisons between Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes don’t end with NFL records. They have gone beyond that.
Most Expensive Football Card Sold
Last Saturday, Sports auction leader Goldin Auctions conducted what was the largest online sports collectibles auction of all-time with $33M in total sports memorabilia sales. Among the highlights of the action were the sale of a Mickey Mantle rookie card for a staggering $1.6M, the most expensive Michael Jordan jersey at $584,000, and a Michael Jordan rookie card at $738K.
Over the weekend, this Patrick Mahomes rookie card sold for $861,000 at @GoldinAuctions. A record amount for a football card. pic.twitter.com/ngXwjco1aw

The auction also saw a 2017 Panini Patrick Mahomes rookie card sell for a record price. As one of only five “black copies” ever issued, the National Treasured #161 card was considered an exceptional rarity. With an AFC logo and a perfectly clear Mahomes autograph, the mint-conditioned card ended up getting sold for $861,000.
The astronomical price for the Mahomes rookie card set a new record for a football trading card, beating out the $555,988 sale of a signed Tom Brady rookie card on January 25th via eBay. But while the prices of those rookie cards are absurd, it’s crazier if you look at what the competition will be like on Super Bowl Sunday this coming weekend.
Super Bowl LV Battle
Brady and Mahomes are set to face off in this weekend’s Super Bowl LV with Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs currently pegged as 3 to 3.5 points betting favorites, depending on which of the best Super Bowl betting sites you are using. Considering that the only meeting between these two teams during the regular season was decided by three-points, get ready for a battle royale between these two generational talents.

Mahomes and Brady are also the top two betting favorites to win the Super Bowl LV MVP award at -115 and +240, respectively at online sportsbook BetOnline. Mahomes is the reigning Super Bowl MVP while Brady is the only four-time Super Bowl MVP in the history of the NFL. With the Moneyline odds currently at -168 for the Chiefs and +148 for the Bucs, Sunday’s NFL finale is expected to be a closely fought battle.
Whether Mahomes’ Chiefs will top Brady’s Bucs on Super Bowl Sunday the way the former’s signed rookie card outvalued a similar trading card bearing Brady’s signature remains to be seen. The same goes for Mahomes winning a second straight Super Bowl MVP or Brady earning a record-extending 5th Pete Rozelle trophy.
