Puerto Rico starts granting online sports gambling licenses this week
On Monday, November 22, the Puerto Rico Gaming Commission started to receive applications from those interested in becoming sports betting operators on electronic platforms in Puerto Rico, an economic vertical that is estimated can generate about US$ 18 million in its first year.
According to statements from the executive director of the Gaming Commission of the Island, Orlando Rivera, each request will be evaluated by the Sports Betting Bureau of the Commission, as well as the filing procedure, which is available on the entity’s website.
The portal contains information, forms, and documents required to formalize the request for licenses for operators or sports betting satellites, esports, and fantasy contests on the Internet, as well as service providers and employees.
“We invite all those interested in being part of a new market that has high growth potential and the broad reach that the Internet offers to participate in the process. Through the rigorous standards we have established, and strict regulation of betting activity, we will ensure player and consumer protection. The operators will be equally protected, under the transparent and equitable rules and procedures administered by the Commission,” Rivera explained.
