If you’re of a certain age, the original Space Jam was a rite of passage. Space Jam was the perfect movie at the perfect time, as it capitalized on the immense popularity of Michael Jordan and Looney Tunes and mashed them together. If you weren’t a kid of the ’90s that saw Space Jam in theaters, you missed out.
Fortunately, those that may have missed that opportunity will have another chance. This summer, LeBron James is set to star in Space Jam: A New Legacy. The sequel to the original classic will hit theaters and HBO Max on July 16.
MyBookie is one of the best sports betting sites on the web, and it also happens to be an excellent entertainment betting site, too. Space Jam is a classic mix of sports and entertainment, so it should come as no surprise that MyBookie is offering up a few Space Jam-related props in anticipation of the film’s imminent release.
Let’s read through the options and make our best guesses, shall we?
Will Michael Jordan Appear in Space Jam 2?
- Yes (+2500)
- No (-5000)
Michael Jordan was the star of the original Space Jam, but he wasn’t the only NBA player to appear in the film. Luminaries like Charles Barkley, Shawn Bradley, Patrick Ewing, Muggsy Bogues, and Larry Johnson all played roles of their own. The sequel stars LeBron in what will presumably be a similar role to what MJ played, and LeBron will be joined by a few of his own NBA contemporaries.
We know that Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, Diana Taurasi, Draymond Green, Chris Paul, Kyle Kuzma, Chiney Ogwumike, and Nneka Ogwumike are among the various NBA and WNBA stars that appear in the film. They’re all listed on the IMDB page, after all.
Jordan is not among those listed. That doesn’t mean he can’t make a cameo of some sort in an uncredited role, but the odds strongly favor His Airness not making an appearance in the sequel. It’s obviously very much within the realm of possibility that Jordan makes his way into the movie at some point, but this is LeBron’s vehicle. I’d be quite surprised if we saw Jordan make a return in this one.
Will Michael Jordan Appear? –No (-5000)
Will Bill Murray Appear in Space Jam 2?
- Yes (+1000)
- No (-2000)
If you saw the original, you’ll remember that Bill Murray played a random role as Jordan’s unofficial sidekick. Bill Murray is still pretty active, but he’s not quite as recognizable as he once was. Space Jam 2 is geared toward kids, and I’m not sure there are many kids out there that could tell you who Bill Murray is. An awful lot of imaginary question marks will pop up over heads if he makes a cameo in the sequel.
I would do anything to have been a fly on the wall for the filming of the MJ, Bird, Bill Murray golf scene in Space Jam. pic.twitter.com/jkDyeJXYOp

As much as everyone loves Bill, it seems rather unlikely that he will reprise his role nearly 30 years later. He comes out of nowhere to help lead the Tune Squad to victory over the Monstars in the original, but I’d imagine LeBron will have his own different group of friends along for the ride in the sequel. Pass on Bill Murray showing up in Space Jam 2.
Will Bill Murray Appear? –No (-2000)
Daffy Duck Total Points in Final Game
- Over 6 (+160)
- Under 6 (-200)
In case you didn’t see the original Space Jam, a team comprised of Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes is tasked with beating a team of monsters in a game of basketball. The monsters found a way to sap the talents of various NBA players. If the Looney Tunes don’t win, they will become enslaved on another planet. It’s actually kinda dark!
Spoiler Alert:
Michael Jordan led the Tune Squad to victory back in 1994. Phew! Jordan helps the Tunes to a 48-2 run in the second half to stave off a lifetime of indentured servitude on Moron Mountain. We’re not totally sure of the premise for the upcoming sequel, but here’s hoping the stakes won’t be quite as high.
In the original, the Tunes used a starting lineup of Jordan, Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny, Daffy Duck, and the Tasmanian Devil. Several years ago, someone actually did the work of attempting to compile a box score from that winner-take-all game. Jordan unsurprisingly led the Tune Squad with 44 total points, while Bugs and Lola Bunny combined to contribute 18.
Daffy Duck finished with four points, a steal, and three turnovers in an uneven overall effort. Daffy is a bit vertically challenged, but his tenacious defense is the reason he cracks the starting five. I’d imagine Daffy will retain his spot in the starting lineup in the sequel, which means he should have ample opportunity to make his mark on the game.
LeBron is more of a distributor than Jordan was as a player, but we can still safely expect King James to score the vast majority of the points for the Tunes in this one. That doesn’t leave a lot of usage for anyone else on the team, so I’m inclined to side with the odds and bet the under on Daffy scoring six points at -200 at entertainment betting sites. He’s not really an offensive-minded player, and he’ll do the dirty work to help the team win.
Daffy Duck Total Points in Final Game –Under 6 (-200)
Bugs and Lola Bunny Total Points in Final Game
Bugs Bunny
- Over 12 (-120)
- Under 12 (-120)
Lola Bunny
- Over 8 (-140)
- Under 8 (+100)
The final score of the original game between the Tune Squad and the Monstars was a pretty low-scoring affair. The Tunes pulled out a 78-77 victory, which was perhaps more of a sign of the times than anything else. The Monstars missed just one of their 35 shots in the original, while the Tunes converted on all 39 of theirs. This makes no sense, of course, but basketball movies featuring cartoons typically don’t make sense.
Defense was king in the NBA back in the ’80s and ’90s. Games were inherently more low-scoring back then, so it’s no surprise that this game didn’t feature a ton of scoring. Points are more easy to come by nowadays, and I’d be surprised if the final game in the sequel turned out to be nearly as low-scoring as the original.
Bugs and Lola Bunny will presumably be the No. 2 and 3 options offensively behind LeBron. Bugs was the second-leading scorer in the original with 10 points, while Lola accounted for 8.
Assuming we see more points in the sequel, I think both Bugs and Lola are likely to score more than they did back in 1994. Bet the over on 12 points for Bugs at -120, and bet the over on 8 points for Lola at -140.
Bugs Bunny Over (-120), Lola Bunny Over (-140)
Will LeBron James Score More Points Than Michael Jordan?
- Yes (-300)
- No (+200)
The “Jordan vs. LeBron” debate will likely go on forever. Older fans that watched Jordan in his prime will almost always try to tell you that His Airness is the true NBA GOAT, while younger fans are more likely to side with King James.
James has said countless times in the past that he has always looked up to Jordan, which is likely true for just about every player in the NBA. LeBron is the closest thing we’ve ever seen to MJ in terms of his career accomplishments, and it’s no surprise that he was ultimately the player to try and reboot Space Jam.
Giannis really did the Michael Jordan dunk from Space Jam. I have seen it all!!!! @World_Wide_Wob pic.twitter.com/NwwkF1fAkh

Jordan bagged a game-high 44 points in the original, including the game-winning dunk as time expired that ensured the Looney Tunes would remain free. The odds heavily favor LeBron scoring more than the 44 points we saw from MJ in Space Jam, and it’s hard to disagree. Given James’ style of play, he’ll presumably put a triple-double on the board in this one.
A 50-point triple-double is certainly within the realm of possibility, especially considering we’re talking about a cartoon. LeBron will almost certainly finish with more than the 44 points Jordan scored back in the day.
Will James Score More Points Than Jordan? –Yes (-300)
