Several days ago, the head of the state Gaming Control Board announced that sports betting in Louisiana could be up and running by November 1st, as the first licenses are close to being issued. The regulator assured the public that applicants for sports betting licenses were in the final stages of approval.
A representative from the Board said that they understand the public is anticipating the launch of sports betting in the state, and that they are “…working overtime” to make it happen sooner rather than later.
Although this is good news, the Board could not name a specific date for issuing the first live-action sports betting licenses, “But it’s going to be soon.” The news comes just as both DraftKings and FanDuel received approval to provide fantasy sports to residents.
As far as overall sports betting in Louisiana, thirteen of the twenty riverboats, racinos, and land-based casino have applied for licenses to take bets on sports. However, the remaining seven gambling properties are expected to apply before the end of the year.
