Super Cup Betting – Bayern vs Sevilla
Bayern Munich and Sevilla haven’t had much time to reflect on their spectacular summers.
The German giants swept away all before them after Project Restart, while Sevilla only seemed to get stronger as a sixth Europa League title came into sight.
Naturally, Champions League winners Bayern (9/25) start as favourites in this one after steamrolling their way to a domestic and European treble, but Sevilla have previous form for upsetting the odds in this competition, lifting the 2006 trophy against Spanish rivals Barcelona.
If there were any doubts that Hansi Flick’s side will be resting on their laurels following last season’s treble exploits, there was precious little evidence for it on their return to Bundesliga action.
Serge Gnabry hit a hat-trick as Bayern streaked to an 8-0 win over Schalke – a game that also saw Leroy Sané score on his league debut for the reigning champions.
For all of Bayern Munich’s dominance in recent months, Julen Lopetegui’s side are unlikely to be intimidated heading into this fixture.
Europa League past masters Sevilla (71/20) were arguably better suited than most to the straight knockout format that helped them build steam last August.
They’ve also invested well ahead of their 2020/21 Champions League campaign, bringing back club favourite Ivan Rakitić from Barcelona and the popular Suso on a permanent deal.
With both teams easing their way back to full fitness after a short pre-season, this could prove an edgy affair.
Bayern looked relentless on their return but face a punishing schedule over the next week. That might just see Flick approach this match cautiously.
As well as this match, FCB face a tricky trip to Hoffenheim and a DFL-Supercup clash with traditional sparring partners Borussia Dortmund all in the space of seven days.
With Sevilla still waiting to make their own La Liga bow, Budapest could see a tactical battle rather than the showstopping football that led both sides to contest this final.
