The 10 Strangest Casinos in the World

the-10-strangest-casinos-in-the-world

When most gamblers think of the word casino, their imagination is whisked away to the Las Vegas Strip’s bright lights and luxury.

However, there’s a whole world out there, and you’ll make much more exciting stories to tell by visiting any of these 10 strangest casinos in the world.

1 – X-Train, Las Vegas, NV

The X-Train Casino would make an excellent name for a Metal band. It’s actually exactly what it sounds like, though.

That is a casino on a train — the X-Train, to be more precise. It’s the latest and greatest way for gamblers to get around Las Vegas in lightning-fast time.

What better way to spend your time on the way to do some casino gambling than casino gambling?

Human beings are ridiculous, and the X-Train Casino reinforces this belief.

Don’t punch your ticket yet. The casino is under development and slated to open sometime in 2021.

2 – North Cadbury Court, Somerset, UK

Set your gaze upon the stone buildings and British hills of North Cadbury Court, and you’re more likely to think of Monty Python than James Bond.

That all changes when you head into the underground basement. The current owners chose to renovate the dark, dank area completely.

Now, the basement is a fully functioning casino that can accommodate up to 30 players. Unfortunately, the casino is only available for guests who rent the entire venue for a private event.

Still, suppose you’re lucky enough to be invited to any such event. In that case, you’ll be greeted by professional croupiers, excited to spin an intimate game of roulette.

Blackjack and poker are also made available for casino guests.

Get in a game at the unassuming basement casino at North Cadbury Court, and you’re sure to be the envy of your gambling circle.

3 – State Prison, Nevada, US (Where else?)

You won’t be able to visit this casino (not that you’d want to). Still, there was once a fully functioning casino in the Nevada state prison.

Prison officials noted that the prisoners had far fewer violent incidents or other outbursts against other inmates and prison staff. Prisoners could choose from all the casino staples like blackjack, craps, and poker.

The casino even offered a sportsbook and had other card and dice game.

For over 30 years, the prison casino was in business. The proceeds from the casino went right back into operating costs for the casino.

I’ll admit, 5 years doesn’t sound like too long if I’m spending it playing real money blackjack.

4 – Bally’s, Las Vegas, NV

You may be surprised to see Bally’s on a list of strangest casinos in the world. From the outside, it certainly appears to be among your pedestrian variety casino.

Nothing really leaps out as you enter this Las Vegas casino as being strange or unique.

If you’re familiar with the history of Bally’s, you may be wondering what took me so long to mention it.

Bally’s hasn’t always been Bally’s. In fact, for decades, it was the MGM Grand Hotel.

That all changed in November of 1980 when one of the biggest tragedies to befall Las Vegas occurred. A massive fire spread through the hotel, and dozens were caught off guard and trapped.

In total, 80 people lost their lives in the tragic incident. Since Bally’s opened at the same location and even incorporated some of the previous structure, guests have told tales of strange events.

Some casino staff and guests have spoken of things like furniture inexplicably moving from one position in the room to another.

Many others have given detailed descriptions of ghosts appearing in stairwells and hotel hallways.

Whether these are the uneasy souls of those that perished in the blaze or the result of a weary mind and over-active imagination remains undetermined.

One fact that is insoluble is that I won’t be caught staying at Bally’s. Nope, I don’t mess with ghosts, and they don’t mess with me.

5 – Taxi Cab Casino, London, UK

The Tiny Home craze has swept across the United States, and it seems the Tiny Casino trend is ramping up across the pond.

Grosvenor Casino has begun putting full-fledged casinos in cabs around the UK. Each of these diminutive betting parlors comes complete with a game table, dealer, and TV for UK sports bettors.

You’ll find additional online gaming options in these taxi cab casinos. If you feel parched, simply have your dealer mix you a drink from the fully stocked bar.

Gambling on the go has never been easier than with these clever mobile gaming dens. These cabs will be happy to take you to the nearby Hill Street Casino free of charge.

Alternatively, you can be dropped anywhere in the city. All the casino asks is that you make a donation to the charity of the casino cabs choosing.

Please, don’t forget to tip your dealer.

And your driver.

6 – Esperanza Base, Hope Bay, Antarctica

One of the genuine contenders for the title of “Strangest Casino in the World” lies in Antarctica’s barren permafrost.

A team of Argentinian scientists and support crew installed the small casino in a modest building that houses the team.

Antarctica is the only continent that I haven’t had the pleasure of traveling to in my adventures.

However, suppose the opportunity ever presents itself. In that case, you should stop in and play a few hands at one of the most secluded casinos on the planet.

Be sure to watch out for penguins cleverly disguised as casino patrons. They’re crafty little birds.

7 – Casino di Venezia, Venice, Italy

Take a break from the gondola rides and fantastic culture in Venice, and you can enjoy the oldest known casino in the world.

Italy is a rich and vibrant country with many modern civilizations finest works coming from the country. Venice stands out among the beautiful cities because of its intricate architecture and fantastic canal system.

I recommend making a memorable trip to this beautiful casino. Casino gamblers have been placing bets and lamenting losses at this Venice staple for nearly 400 years.

The casino has dozens of card games for players to choose from and hundreds of various slot machines. Everybody in the group will find their own unique piece of Italy in this historic casino.

8 – Desert Cave Hotel, Coober Pedy, Australia

The Desert Cave Hotel provides one of the most unique and remote gaming locations on the entire planet. Few operations rival the secluded location of this strange casino.

This casino is carved out of the rocky terrain of the Australian desert. The first inhabitants of the area were miners, and because of the scorching temperatures, they built their homes underground.

Coober Pedy remains one of the top opal producers globally, and over half of its current residents reside in subterranean lairs.

Casino guests can choose from dozens of slot machines to play as they try to beat the heat.

9 – Casino in Full VR, Everywhere, Nowhere

This strange casino doesn’t physically exist. Yet, it’s an authentic casino where players enjoy an immersive casino experience for real money.

The VR casino is the creation of a popular online casino, Slots Million. The best feature of the virtual reality casino is that you can enjoy a lifelike casino experience from anywhere.

Want to hit the blackjack table from bed?

You don’t even need to change out of your pajamas. Simply grab your Occulus VR headset, and you’re transported to the casino floor.

You can interact with other guests, dealers and play all of your favorite casino games. The casino offers a wide variety of table games, and the list of slot machines is seemingly infinite.

While Slot Million is the first to foray into the world of VR casinos, you can expect others to be hot on their heels.

VR technology has exploded over the past five years, and online casinos won’t want to miss the boat. The future is now, and this VR casino proves that.

10 – Casino Pyongyang, Pyongyang, North Korea

A list of the strangest casinos in the world wouldn’t be complete without Casino Pyongyang. One of only two casinos in North Korea, Casino Pyongyang, caters to Chinese tourists.

The casino is owned and operated by a Chinese firm, and North Koreans are expressly forbidden from gambling. In fact, North Koreans aren’t allowed in the casino at all.

Every employee at the casino is a foreigner. From security to cocktail servers, each position is filled by workers from countries friendly with the rogue nation.

The casino welcomes all foreign guests with open arms and even offer currency exchange for US dollars and British pounds.

The casino sits in a secluded corner of the Yanggakdo International Hotel in the heart of Pyongyang. Visitors can enjoy table games, slots, and poker until 3 am 7 days a week.

The casino has become the focus of some strange suicides by employees, and it’s in North Korea. So, you may be best served to skip this one.

Conclusion

We’ve traveled to all corners of the planet to hunt down the oddest casinos we could find. The 10 strangest casinos in the world offer something for everybody.
