There have been a lot of bills introduced for the regulation of Louisiana sports betting. Now, estimates are that the activity could be launched as early as this fall, perhaps in time for the NFL season.
Senators in Louisiana recently voted 31-6 on a bill to allow sports bets to be placed on smartphones, in casinos, at approved kiosks, and even in restaurants that serve liquor. The bill must now go before the Louisiana House.
A survey last year found that 65% of state residence approve of the regulation of sports wagers. Louisiana State Police Gaming Enforcement Division spokesperson Chuck McNeal said that Louisiana sports betting will be a reality by fall.
Even though betting on sports has not yet launched, fantasy sports provider FanDuel has confirmed that they are on track to enter the Louisiana by the fall. A FanDuel representative stated that the company is working with the Louisiana Gaming Board and the state police ahead of any launch.
Under the proposed regulation, athletes, coaches, and game officials would not be able to bet on their own games. You can learn more at The Advocate.
