We hear rumors. Sometimes we share them, and some times we wait for confirmation. That’s where we were with the Wizard of Oz Experience at the Las Vegas Sphere. But now, the New York Post has seemingly confirmed the rumors, so let’s get into this.
First, understand that from a profit perspective, the Sphere has made more money from their independent projects rather than their big concerts. Their “Postcard from Earth” film being a prime example. So, the owners of the property are keen to generate more original content.
Enter the $80 million Wizard of Oz Experience. The original film is a timeless film which debuted before World War II. Now, the 1939 classic will be altered so that it plays on the amazing high definition screen, and of course we are excited to hear the Lollipop Guild from the immersive sound system.
This announcement comes almost simultaneously with the news of a U2 feature. The V-U2 Immersive Concert Film, shot at the Sphere during the band’s residency, will also be made. The legendary rockers actually helped open the venue last year, playing to more than 700,000 fans during 40 sold-out performances.
So if you missed U2, you will at least have a chance to experience some of the magic. As far as the forthcoming Wizard of Oz Experience, there has been no confirmation of an opening date. Watch this space for more information, which we will pass along once we receive it.
