York Racing Tips – Day 1
The fantastic York Ebor Festival kicks off today with a brilliant seven race card. The Juddmonte International is the pick of them with Ghaiyyath the short-priced favourite. However, he takes on four classy rivals.
13:45 – Magic J (8/1 EW)
A wide open contest to get us under way on the Knavesmire as 22 horses compete in the 5 ½ furlong dash but MAGIC J looks to have a cracking each-way shout. Ed Vaughan’s 4-year-old has been impressive over 5f this season especially when winning at Sandown in July. He travels well and looks to be a decent each-way price.
14:15 – Titan Rock (14/1)
It’s hard to read form lines given most of these have only had one run. Titan Rock won a hot Class 2 race at Glorious Goodwood and could spring another surprise in this Group 3.
14:45 – Mogul (2/1)
Ryan Moore teamed up with Mogul in the Gordon Stakes and ground out a tough but classy win. He faces an up and coming Darain for John Gosden but Aidan O’Brien’s colt should have too much.
15:15 – Magical (7/2)
Ghaiyyath is rightly favourite after three fantastic performances this season. However, with rain forecast and potential softening ground, Ghaiyyath’s front running tactics could come under scrutiny and Magical could be the one to pick up the pieces.
15:45 – Here And Now (12/1 EW)
A 2 mile ½ furlong slog with 17 runners is a tough one to call but Here And Now for Ralph Beckett must have an each-way shout, having won this race two years ago.
16:20 – Mighty Spirit (18/1 EW)
The Fillies’ go over 5 furlongs in the penultimate race and Richard Fahey’s Mighty Spirit could go close at a big price with Megan Nicholls in the saddle. She ran an eye-catching 5th in a massive field at Royal Ascot and could progress, though has been a bit disappointing since.
16:50 – Perotto (8/1)
The in-form Marcus Tregoning teams up with Martin Dwyer in the final race of the day and their 2-year-old looks prime for a big run having recorded two victories from his four runs this season.
