In Week 2, the San Francisco 49ers travel cross country to take on the New York Jets in a game featuring two winless teams. Although the Jets were expected to lose last weekend at Buffalo, the 49ers were a sizable favorite at home and came up short against the Cardinals.
Both teams will look to fix their problems from the opening week and hope to put up more points on the scoreboard with their offenses.

49ers vs Jets NFL Game Preview
The 49ers and Jets have played against each other 13 times with San Francisco having a massive lead in the all-time series at 10-3. They last played against each other in 2016 and it was the Jets who won in OT by the score of 23 to 17.
- San Francisco (0-1) looked out of sync offensively against the Cardinals in Week 1 as they missed two of their top receivers due to injuries. Although they put up 410 total yards, the 49ers were only able to score just 20 points against a middle of the pack Cardinals defense.
- The New York Jets (0-1) were lucky to score 17 points against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 as they were down 27 to 10 with two minutes left in the game before they scored a “garbage time” TD. New York needs to find a balanced offensive attack and improve their play in the secondary to have a chance this week.

The San Francisco 49ers have been a preseason favorite with many analysts to win the NFC conference. Yet, they came out in Week 1 and looked a bit out of sync on offense and then couldn’t stop the Cardinals offense when it mattered the most.

In fact, the 49ers’ elite defense gave up 24 points, 382 total yards, 259 passing yards and 123 rushing yards against the Cardinals. They couldn’t stop Murray’s scrambling and ability to extend plays. They also couldn’t shut down WR Hopkins who had a big day.
Fortunately for the 49ers, they don’t face a scrambling QB or any receivers that can win one-on-one battles. In fact, they won’t even face a strong rushing attack as New York’s RB Le’Veon Bell is going to miss this week’s game due to a hamstring injury.
That means the 37 year old, and former 49ers, Franke Gore will be the lead back for the Jets on Sunday. It also means that the 49ers defense will key in on NY’s QB Sam Darnold who’s a pocket passer and will be more stationary for San Francisco to hit.
Offensively, I expect SF’s QB Jimmy Garoppolo to have a big day. Josh Allen put up over 300 passing yards against this Jets defense that has significant question marks in secondary. Jimmy G. should be able to do that as well.
The Jets have one of the league’s best run defenses as they were ranked 2nd overall last season and only allowed 52 rushing yards last week against the Bills. The 49ers will most likely throw the ball 40 times on Sunday as they might find it hard to move the chains on the ground.
I really like the 49ers in this matchup. I believe it’s going to be a double digit win for San Francisco as the Jets are not a good team. With their best player running back Le’Veon Bell out this weekend, they have even less of a chance to succeed.
Look for the 49ers defense to swarm Jets QB Sam Darnold all game long and cause a few turnovers. San Francisco will regain their moxy, get out to a big lead and win by two touchdowns. Jimmy G. will throw for over 300 yards and three TDs.
