7 Ways to Play Better Slots That Don’t Involve Strategy

7-ways-to-play-better-slots-that-don’t-involve-strategy

When someone asks me how they can win more gambling, my first answer is almost always that they need to learn more about strategy for the game they play and start using it. But when they tell me they play slots, my answer is a bit different.

And the reason why the answer is different is because there aren’t really any slots strategies that work.

But this doesn’t mean that there aren’t some tactics you can learn to become a better slots player.

Here are seven ways you can become a better slots payer that don’t have anything to do with strategy.

1 – Be the Tortoise, Not the Hare

Everyone is familiar with the old story about the tortoise and the hare. The tortoise keeps a slow and steady pace, while the hare messes around and loses the race even though he has superior speed.

You might not think this story has anything to do with playing better slots, but there’s an important lesson for slots players here.

Look around at what other slots players are doing. Now, remember that most slots players are losing. So, why are you doing the same things they’re doing?

Losing slots players tend to play the machines as fast as they possibly can. Don’t forget, you’re in total control of how fast you play slots, whether you’re playing in a live casino, mobile casino or online casino site.

If you play slots slower, you reduce your losses and can play longer. This is why I say that you should play slots like the tortoise, not the hare.

2 – “Jackpot or Bust” Mentality

Playing slots is a losing proposition. As long as you’re feeding money into the slot machine and spinning the reels, the casino is taking your money.

In the slots game, the only chance you have of coming out ahead in the long run is to get lucky and win a big amount of money with a jackpot. This is exactly how I use real money slot machines when I play.

I always play on a machine with a jackpot. I understand that the odds are against me, but I also know that if I get lucky, I can win a life-changing jackpot.

Never plan to make a profit playing slots. This just leads to disappointment. Yes, you’re going to win every once in a while, but most of the time, you’re going to lose.

If you change your point of view and accept that you’re going to lose unless you get lucky, it can change everything. I’m not expecting to win every time I play, but I’m willing to risk $100 or $200 sometime to try to get lucky and win a jackpot.

3 – Timed Slots Sessions

The casinos know how gamblers’ minds work. The casinos know that if they entertain you enough, then you might lose track of time and play the slots longer than you planned. And the more you play, the more the casino makes.

This is why I always recommend using a planned session time when you play slots. Set a timer on your phone before you start playing a slot machine and stop playing immediately when the timer goes off.

This is the best way to make sure that you don’t play when you should stop. You can choose your session time, so there’s never a reason to play after your timer goes off.

If you want to play longer, take this into account for your next session. Just don’t extend the current session. Start with short playing session times, and keep building up until you find a time that works best for you.

Instead of planning to go to the casino for four hours, plan to have eight 15-minute slots sessions. Take a break after each session. Walk around a bit and get the blood flowing.

4 – Session Bankroll Considerations

Another type of control you can use to limit your slots losses is a bankroll for each playing session. You can use this in combination with your timed sessions. The combination of these two tactics really helps you control your losses.

Set a bankroll for each slots session that you plan to play. This doesn’t need to be complicated. You can simply divide the total amount you’re planning to take to the casino for gambling purposes by the number of playing sessions you plan to use.

For Example:

In the last section I recommended breaking your gambling time into eight 15-minute sessions. If you planned to take $400 to the casino to gamble with, simply divide $400 by 8 and you get a session bankroll of $50.

For each of your eight slots sessions, you have 15 minutes to play. And if you lose $50 in a session, you stop playing.

In addition to controlling your losses using these two-session limits, you also create a situation that’s even better. For every session where you end with some money left over, you can cash this out and put it back in your pocket. This almost guarantees that you’re not going to lose your entire bankroll for the trip.

5 – Always Use Bonus Opportunities

I admit that I’m not a huge slots player. I take a chance at some progressive jackpots like I explained in the second section on this page, but I’m not a regular player. Yet every time I walk into a live casino, I see hundreds of slot machines with players feeding them money.

I have a deep understanding of statistics and math principles because I’ve got a degree in mathematics and I’ve spent most of my adult life studying gambling, odds, and probabilities. And this is why I don’t understand why anyone plays slot machines in live casinos.

Live slot machines work exactly the same as the slots available on mobile and online devices. They might not always have the same names, but slot machines are basically all the same.

Your odds are also probably a little better when you play mobile and online slots. But even if the odds are exactly the same, you should always play slots online.

The reason for this is simple. You can use bonuses when you play slots online, and you can’t use them when you play live slots.

If you have the same chance to win, or a better chance to win, and you can get a bonus every time you play, there’s never a reason to play land-based slots again.

6 – Low Coin Denominations

I recommend playing jackpot slots, as you learned in a previous section. But the problem with slots that have good jackpot amounts is that many of them also have higher coin denominations or minimum wager amounts.

Some progressive slot machines require $3 or more on every spin, and there are also many machines in the $2 to $2.50 range.

When you risk this much on every spin, your total amount wagered goes up quickly. And the more your total risk amount is, the more you’re probably going to lose.

This is why you also need to try to play on slot machines with a lower coin denomination. Look for slots with a decent jackpot number that you can play for $1 a spin, 50 cents a spin, or even a quarter a spin. This still gives you a chance to get lucky with a jackpot while also limiting the amount you risk and win every time you play.

7 – Don’t Chase Comps or Anything Else

If you ignored my advice in the earlier section and play slots in a live casino, you need to at least make sure that you get comps for your slot machine play. This isn’t going to be as good as getting good slot bonuses at top online gambling sites, but it does help a little bit.

But an issue with playing for comps is that many players end up chasing the next comps level instead of stopping play when they planned. This is dangerous and almost always costs you more money in losses than the return you get from the comps.

The first lesson here is to never chase comps. Get them for your regular play, but never chase them. The second lesson is that you shouldn’t ever chase anything else. Don’t chase losses or try to bet more to get back to even before you quit playing.

Use a bankroll and time limit for each session. Then, make sure stick with them no matter what.

Conclusion

If you want to improve your slots results, you can forget about using strategy. You’re not going to find a strategy that actually improves your slots results. But you can still do some things to become a better slots player.

The most important thing you can do as a slots player is learn how to limit your losses. Several of the seven ways to become a better slots player without using strategy listed in this article are designed to do this.

Another important thing to do is forget about winning in the short term and focus on having a chance to win a large jackpot. When you change your point of view, it can help you make long-term slots plans.
