  • Alabama listed as +300 favorites to win next year’s national championship at Caesars Sportsbook
  • Tide cruised to a 52-24 win over Ohio State on Monday night
  • Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma also listed among next season’s title favorites

The Alabama Crimson Tide had no issues whatsoever with the Ohio State Buckeyes in Monday night’s College Football National Championship. The Tide stormed their way to a 52-24 victory in a game that really wasn’t even as close as the lopsided score indicates. Bama put 35 points on the board before halftime, and the defense was able to keep Justin Fields and the Buckeyes’ high-octane offense in check for the vast majority of the game.

Alabama finished the strange 2020 campaign with a perfect 12-0 record, with head coach Nick Saban winning his sixth national title. In news that should come as a surprise to absolutely nobody, Saban’s squad has been listed as presumptive national title favorites again next season at a variety college football betting sites and land-based sportsbooks.

Caesars Sportsbook in Las Vegas has installed the Tide as +300 favorites ahead of next season. That puts them just ahead of Clemson (+400), Ohio State (+750), Oklahoma (+750), Georgia (+1200), Notre Dame (+1500), and Texas A&M (+1500).

Bama Will Reload Again

Alabama cruised to victory after closing as 9.5-point favorites over Ohio State on Monday. Alabama has now been favored in each of their last 80 games, which is the longest streak in the history of the sport. Alabama’s last game as a betting underdog came back in 2015 in a game against Georgia.

The Tide will lose a number of key players to the NFL and graduation, including Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith, star quarterback Mac Jones, and big-play threat Jaylen Waddle. However, as is always the case with massive programs like Alabama, Saban will surely be able to replace his departing talent with a fresh crop of five-star recruits at just about every position.

Jones wound up winning the starting quarterback job after Tua Tagovailoa departed for the pro ranks after last season. The senior won the preseason QB competition over a pair of freshmen, Paul Tyson and Bryce Young. Young is expected to be favored to win the job last year after a stellar high school career at Mater Dei in Southern California. Tyson is a pro-style QB who happens to be the great-grandson of legendary Alabama head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.

Young happens to also be one of the preseason frontrunners to win next year’s Heisman Trophy. Young is listed around +600 at most college football betting sites for the award next season, which puts him ahead of the likes of Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler (+700), Clemson’s DJ Uiagalelei (+750), and Miami’s D’Eriq King (+1000).

Uiagalelei to Replace Lawrence for Clemson

Uiagalelei will take over as the starter at Clemson next year following the departure of star QB Trevor Lawrence. The Tigers were upset by Ohio State in the semis of this year’s College Football Playoffs, but they will be in good hands with Uiagalelei under center. The Hawaii native looked impressive in the absence of Lawrence in limited duty earlier this season.

Alabama is set to open the 2021 campaign against Miami on September 4. The Tide are slated to play three more non-conference games against Southern Miss (September 25), New Mexico State (November 13), and Mercer (November 20) in addition to a standard conference schedule. Alabama will host LSU while facing three tough road games at Auburn, Florida, and Texas A&M next year.
