ew Jersey’s Casino Control Commission (CCC), in collaboration with the American Legion, held its annual veteran’s job fair on Thursday. About 1,800 positions are available in the city’s nine casinos, including housekeeping, bartending, and security positions.
Simpkins, a 60-year-old Barnegat Township resident, worked at Tropicana for 32 years. On March 26, he began a six-month furlough period from Beach Haven Public Works. When he decided to attend the job fair, he quickly noticed how much simpler the application process was.
Frank Simpkins, who served in the Army Reserve for 24 years stated to The Press of Atlantic City: “(The fair) is big because normally, you go to the employment center and they have a long line (and) you’re there all day when you come out here, you get the information, you go online and you apply for the job. It’s a lot easier.”
CCC Chairman James Plousis said: “I think it sends the message to everybody in the region that the casinos are back up and running, and they need staff, and we have people coming today getting hired.”
