Sports betting is yet again on the table in Kentucky this new year. A bill introduced Thursday in Frankfort would legalize betting on sporting events. Should it pass, people in the state could bet on the NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA Tour, NASCAR, MLS, college sports, the Olympics and more options, as well as gamble on fantasy sports and poker.  House Bill 106 was introduced on January 5, and is sponsored by representatives Derrick Graham, Cherlynn Stevenson and Rachel Roberts. Real estate investment trust VICI Properties announced Monday it has acquired the real estate assets of four casinos – PURE Casino Edmonton, PURE Casino Yellowhead, PURE Casino Calgary and PURE Casino Lethbridge, all located in the province of Alberta – from PURE Canadian Gaming Corp. The deal expands VICI’s footprint into Canada. The purchase was carried out for an aggregate price of approximately CAD 271.9 million ($200.8 million). According to local media reports, as of January 8, Macau has canceled most of its travel restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic, dropping all testing requirements for inbound travelers from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The city has also canceled all restrictions on entries to casinos, no longer requiring the presentation of health codes to enter the gaming facilities. A tribal gaming authority must pay more than $88 million in damages to investors over failed plans to build two casinos, one of them an off-reservation gaming property near Detroit Metro Airport, and a second one proposed in downtown Lansing. The Ingham County Circuit Court judge found the Kewadin Casinos Gaming Authority liable for not only repaying, with interest, $9 million in loans from two groups of investors, but also the investors’ loss of potential future profits from the unbuilt casinos, reports Detroit Free Press. The legal battle for control of the UK National Lottery has been revived by Camelot’s technology partner, International Game Technology (IGT), as the company is now suing the Gambling Commission under European human rights laws. The business argues the regulator’s decision to award the fourth lottery license to the Czech-owned Allwyn gaming group has cost its “marketable goodwill,” reports The Times. The new license is due to start in February 2024. Las Vegas-based Station Casinos has sold 56.6 acres south of the Strip to hospital chain HCA Healthcare. The land is located at the northwest corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Cactus Avenue, and had a tag price of nearly $62.3 million.  The sale closed late last month. Both Station Casinos and an HCA communications manager confirmed the transaction to Las Vegas Review-Journal. No specific plans have been made for the use of the land thus far. Sports betting and online casino operator Betsson Group has closed down its online brand Casino Winner. The site previously targeted the Dutch market but has been blocking customers in the Netherlands since the launch of the country’s regulated online gambling market, which went live in October 2021. The site was operated through Betsson’s MGA-licensed Corona Ltd, which controls both the Casino Winner and Loyal Casino businesses. Betsson bought the two sites – which were previously known as Kroon Casino and Oranje Casino, respectively – from three entrepreneurs for €130 million ($136.8 million) in 2014. Online betting giant bet365 has announced £2.8 billion ($3.4 billion) in 2022 revenue, corresponding to the financial year ended March 27, a figure that implies a 2.9% increase from the prior-year period.
