Minnesota sports betting legalization bill failed to pass in the Legislature before the regular session ended late Sunday night, May 22, despite bipartisan support in the Senate and the House of Representatives, which had to bridge differences between their different versions. Some of Las Vegas’ biggest real estate deals have resulted in no transfer taxes, an investigation by Las Vegas Review-Journal found. At least $27.5 billion worth of transactions, mostly on or near the renowned Strip, have closed since 2007 without publicly reporting tax payments routinely levied on home purchases. The deals include the $4.2 billion cash sale of the Bellagio, which was completed in fall 2019 and was supposed to generate about $21 million in real estate sales taxes. Brazilian Senator Rodrigo Pacheco assessed the possibility of taking advantage of a “window of opportunity” after the elections, and before the end of the current legislature, to vote on the gambling regulation, thus avoiding possible opposition from any new parliamentary composition. On Thursday, Gun Lake Casino in Michigan hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for a $300 million project that will see the venue transform into “a first-class destination resort.” Owned by the Gun Lake Tribe, the new resort is expected to open in March 2025, on the west side of Gun Lake Casino, in Wayland Township. After the departure of The Star Entertainment’s outgoing executive chairman, John O’Neill, Queensland casino boss Geoff Hogg will become the acting CEO of the Group, while non-executive director Ben Heap will be taking on the role of interim chairman that O’Neill also left. Penn National Gaming’s L’Auberge Baton Rouge in Louisiana has commenced the $6.7 million renovation and rebranding of its Stadium Sports Bar & Grill that will turn it into a Barstool Sportsbook. The new amenity is set to open “around November,” the casino’s vice president of marketing, Cheryl Duhon, told The Advocate.  The new sportsbook will have a full restaurant and bar, featuring a menu similar to what Stadium offered.
