Hawaii House Bill 1815, which dropped last week and aims to legalize sports betting in the state, is seeking to impose a 55% tax on sportsbooks. The unusually high rate would make Hawaii the highest-taxed state for sports gaming, ahead of New York and New Hampshire’s 51% rate. Authored by Rep. Cambodia’s largest casino operator, NagaWorld, has denied having targeted union members in mass layoffs last year that led to an ongoing strike. On Tuesday, NagaWorld employees began their 37th day of industrial action near Naga’s complex in Phnom Penh. A new legislation is seeking to introduce limits on the number of Nebraska racetracks developing casinos. Legislative Bill 876, introduced by State Sen. Tom Briese of Albion, chairman of the General Affairs Committee, sets requirements for the approval of new racetracks in the state, thus restricting the number of casinos. The Macau Legislative Assembly (AL) passed its first reading of the draft bill seeking to amend Macau’s gaming on Monday. Tennessee collected $3.3 million in taxes from $340 million in sports wagers placed at sportsbooks in the state in December. The month was the third-highest for amount of bets placed since the market launched in November 2020: it follows October, which saw $375.3 million in handle; and November, at $365.7 million in bets.
