Phil Davis vs Lyoto Machida 2 – Main Event Preview

Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis and Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida first fought at UFC 163 on August 3rd, 2013, where Davis defeated Machida via unanimous decision.

Since their first fight, both men had mixed success in the UFC before they each ended up heading to Bellator.

Davis arrived in Bellator in 2015 where he went on to win the light heavyweight grand prix. In 2016, he captured the light heavyweight title, but lost it to Ryan Bader in June 2017.

Machida didn’t join Bellator until 2018 where he won his first two fights by defeating Rafael Carvalho and Chael Sonnen.

Davis last fought in October 2019 where he won via 3rd round TKO. He’s on a two-fight win streak and has gone 9-4 since the first fight against Machida.

Lyoto Machida is 2-1 in Bellator having lost one year ago via split decision to Gegard Mousasi. He’s 7-5 since the first fight against Davis and is 4-1 in his last five overall fights.

In their first fight, Phil Davis was a large underdog of odds ranging from +195 to +300 while Machida was listed as the favorite with odds ranging from -250 to -375.

Best Bellator 245 Bets

As mentioned, Bellator 245 odds and prop bets have not been released yet. But, based on previous fights and events, these are the best Bellator 245 bets to keep an eye on:

Who Will Be the Favorite Between Phil Davis and Lyoto Machida?

Machida was the favorite in their first fight, but Davis hasn’t been an underdog since 2014. I would look to bet on Davis in this one no matter the odds.

Over/Under for Davis vs Machida

Their first fight went the distance and I expect that the Over will be the favorite for this contest. Davis has gone to a decision in 15 of his 25 pro fights while Machida has gone to the scorecards in 17 of his 35 pro fights.

Cat Zingano moneyline against Gabby Holloway

Zingano is 1-4 in her last five fights, but should come into her Bellator debut as a large betting favorite.

Over/Under for Ruth vs Johnson

Ed Ruth is the more established fighter in Bellator and has been a favorite for most of his fights. I expect him to be a large betting favorite for this main card bout against Taylor Johnson who is making his Bellator debut.

The wager I’m watching for is the Over/Under total rounds as Johnson has never gone the distance in a pro fight. In fact, he’s never been to the 3rd round of a fight. It will be interesting to see if Bellator betting sites list this O/U at 1.5 or 2.5 rounds.

Carvalho vs Polizzi Moneylines

Carvalho is a former Bellator champ and the more well-known fighter in this bout. Yet, he’s going up against an unbeaten prospect who wore gold in LFA. It will be interesting to see who the oddsmakers favor for this prelim fight.
