  • Sportsbooks have installed Bryson DeChambeau as a consensus favorite to win the 2020 Masters
  • DeChambeau won his first major at the US Open in September
  • Tiger Woods listed at +3300 following his fifth Masters title last year

The Masters gets underway this week, and golf betting sites have all agreed on a consensus favorite. Bryson DeChambeau, who won the US Open just over a month ago, has been installed as the favorite to win the Masters at every major land-based and online sportsbook.

DeChambeau checks in as a +800 favorite at Caesars Sportsbook by William Hill, while BetOnline.ag has the former US Open champ listed at +750. Dustin Johnson is listed at +850 at Caesars, which makes him the only other golfer with odds more favorable than +1000. Jon Rahm is priced at +1000, followed by Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy at +1200 apiece.

DeChambeau Attracting Betting Interest

DeChambeau has emerged as the most popular option for bettors, too. More money has been wagered on DeChambeau to win the Masters than any other golfer by a pretty huge margin. DraftKings Sportsbook has taken more than twice as much money in wagers on DeChambeau than anybody else. He has also attracted more bets and more money than any other player at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas.

Tiger Woods isn’t among the heavy favorites at +3300, but he has still gotten plenty of interest from the betting public, as usual. BetMGM reportedly took a $5,000 wager on Woods at +4000 odds to win the Masters, which would pay out $200,000 if he’s able to win the tournament for the sixth time.

Woods won the Masters last year, which snapped a streak of 11 years without a major title. He has recorded 14 top-10 finishes in 22 career starts at the Masters.

Phil a Liability for Sportsbooks

The Westgate SuperBook says their biggest liability is three-time Masters champion, Phil Mickelson. Jeff Sherman, the VP of risk and golf odds specialist at the SuperBook, told ESPN that Mickelson has attracted plenty of betting interest despite his long +20000 odds.

Sherman said, “Any time Mickelson is triple digits at a major, he sees support.”

Mickelson hasn’t won the Masters since 2010. His best showing since was a tie for second back in 2015. His last four starts at Augusta have resulted in a missed cut, a tie for 22nd, a tie for 36th, and a tie for 18th.

DeChambeau’s Resurgent 2020

DeChambeau, 27, has never finished better than 21st at the Masters. He finished tied for 21st in his first start at Augusta back in 2016 before carding a 38th-place finish in 2018 and a 29th-place showing last year.

He has been one of the most improved players on the PGA Tour this year after adding quite a bit of muscle to his frame. DeChambeau missed the cut in two of his four starts at majors last year. So far in 2020, though, he managed to tie for fourth-place at the PGA Championship before winning the US Open at Winged Foot back in September.

DeChambeau said earlier this week that he is having to “relearn the course” because of the way his game has changed as a result of his new weightlifting regimen. DeChambeau is consistently hitting the ball between 330 and 350 yards off the tee, which means he has even more distance to his drive than he did when he won the US Open a couple of months ago.
