Creating what are known as “super-fights” in the sport of boxing isn’t easy. Fans love to debate how champions would fare against one another. It rarely happens, though. Many now believe that Charlo vs. Canelo is a fight that needs to be made before the end of 2021.

The middleweight division in boxing is quickly developing into one of the most exciting in the sport. Jermall Charlo and Canelo Alvarez are two of the best fighters in this weight class. Today, we’ll talk about how a fight between the two might play out.

Let’s get into it!

Canelo Alvarez Fights Avni Yildirim on February 27

Boxing fans love to debate who the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world is. It’s hard to deny that Canelo Alvarez now deserves that title. He has accumulated a 54-1-2 record as a professional with wins over some of the most legendary boxers to ever compete.

Canelo has also shown a willingness to move up and down in weight. Back in November of 2019, he moved up to light-heavyweight and knocked out Sergey Kovalev. He then came back down to super-middleweight and earned an impressive decision victory over Callum Smith.

On February 27, he will officially take on Avni Yildirim, the mandatory challenger for his WBC super-middleweight title. Casual fans are likely unaware of Avni. He’s a talented young fighter from Turkey with a 21-2 record inside the ring.

BetOnline, one of the best internet sportsbooks in the world, is offering some great odds on this bout. Canelo comes in as the massive -4000 favorite. He’s one of the hardest hitters below heavyweight and has incredible defensive skills, as well.

To say that Yildirim is facing an uphill battle here is an understatement. He’s never fought someone with the skills that Canelo has. He enters this title fight as the +1400 underdog and would shock the entire world with a victory.

Most expect Saul to get past his opponent later this month. Fans are now looking ahead at who could possibly give the champ some issues inside the ring. There is one name that continues to come up.

We Could See Charlo vs. Canelo Before the End of 2021

There was a time when Canelo Alvarez ruled over the middleweight division with an iron fist. In 2019, he decided to move up in weight. It now seems that he would prefer to remain in the super-middleweight division to avoid the slightly more difficult weight cut.

Perhaps his biggest tests are back down in the middleweight division, though. Jermall Charlo won the WBC middleweight title in April of 2018. He has since defended his belt on four different occasions. Overall, Charlo is 31-0 with 22 wins coming via stoppage.

Boxing fans around the world are now demanding that we see Charlo vs. Canelo at some point this year. Many feel the WBC middleweight king has the perfect style to give Saul trouble. Jermall seems to agree and spoke to the media about this fight recently.

“Where the real champions at? Where the real lions at? … Who ya’ll want to see me fight next? What makes the most sense? … I’m thinking like Eubank or somebody. Who ya’ll wanna see me take out? … I’ll fight GGG,” Charlo said. “That’s why I don’t want to fight no Eubank because ya’ll already fuckin’ doubting me, ya’ll don’t even really like that fight ‘cause ya’ll know I’m bigger than that… My one fight this year, I’m exposing him. Canelo-Charlo.”

That is a bold statement to make. Canelo has only been “exposed” once in his career and that came back when he was just 21 years old against Floyd Mayweather. He’s been nothing short of perfect time that time in the sport.

Charlo vs. Canelo would likely be one of the biggest fights in recent history. Everyone wants to see Alvarez tested. Jermall Charlo might be the only man capable of doing so. We’ll be sure to offer updates on this possible fight over the next few months.

Paul Brothers Continue to Prepare for Upcoming Bouts

True boxing fans love what is happening in the lightweight, welterweight, and middleweight divisions. There are some incredible bouts that could take place in these weight divisions over the next few years. Not everyone is as pleased to see the Paul brothers continue their move into combat sports.

Both Logan and Jake Paul have fights lined up this year. Logan is set to fight against Floyd Mayweather on a date not yet determined. Jake Paul is scheduled to fight against former MMA star Ben Askren on April 17.

Odds on these fights are now available online, too. Most are choosing to wager on Jake’s matchup against Ben Askren. It’s a fight that is drawing massive interest from MMA fans, just about all of whom hope to see Askren pull off the victory.

Amazingly, he comes in as the +185 underdog to do so. Ben was a fantastic mixed martial artist, yet relied almost exclusively on his wrestling skills to get wins. His striking has never been elite and the oddsmakers seem to feel he’ll struggle against Jake.

The younger Paul brother comes into this matchup as the -225 favorite. He’s gone 2-0 as a boxer, yet both of his opponents had no prior experience in the sport of boxing. He’s certainly confident and believes a win here sets him up for even bigger fights down the line.
