On Friday, March 5th, an all women boxing PPV event titled SuperWomen will take place live from the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center in Flint, MI, beginning at 9PM ET on FITE.TV.
The entire show is based around the main event, which features two unbeaten fighters Claressa Shields (10-0, 2 KOs) taking on Marie-Eve Dicaire (17-0, 0 KOs) for the undisputed junior middleweight championship.
Shields, who is from Flint, currently holds the WBC and WBO junior-middleweight titles while Dicaire holds the IBF title. The WBA has created a “super” belt for the winner of this contest.
This will be the first time a women’s boxing match has headlined a boxing PPV since Laila Ali and Jacqui Frazier-Lyde fought in 2001.
In total, there are five bouts scheduled for this all-women’s boxing PPV event. As of this writing, boxing betting sites have released odds for the main event only.

Shields enters this world title fight as a large boxing betting favorite with odds ranging from -1000 to -1165. She’s been the favorite in all 10 of her pro fights. The only time she wasn’t at least a 10-to-1 favorite was when she took on Christina Hammer in April 2019. Shields was just a -300 favorite.
Dicaire has very little betting data available. Prior to this fight, she was a massive favorite over Maria Lindberg in June 2019.

Marie-Eve Dicaire is an undefeated southpaw who currently holds the IBF junior middleweight title and is ranked 2nd in the division behind Shields according to Ring Magazine.
Despite not having the same name recognition as Shields, Dicaire will be a tough challenge for Claressa which should make this bout even more entertaining.
This will be the first time that Dicaire has ever fought outside of Canada. She won the IBF title in 2018 when she defeated Chris Namus via unanimous decision. She last fought in November 2019 where she beat Ogleidis Suarez via unanimous decision.
The 34 year old Canadian recognizes that this is an opportunity of a lifetime and has been waiting her whole life for this moment:

Shields’ Move to Junior-Middleweight
In 2018, just her 6th pro fight, Shields captured the WBA and IBF middleweight bouts with a unanimous decision win over Hanna Gabriels. She moved down from super-middleweight where she was the WBC and IBF champ.
In April 2019, Shields defeated Christina Hammer via unanimous decision to become the undisputed women’s middleweight champion after unifying the WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF titles.
In January 2020, Shields moved down in weight once again as she defeated Ivana Habazin for the WBO and WBC junior-middleweight titles. She became the fastest professional boxer to win titles in three different divisions.
Now, Shields is looking to be the first woman to become an undisputed world champ in two different divisions.
Shields Is Fighting for More Than a Legacy

How Long Will This Fight Last?
Marie-Eve Dicaire has never lost in her professional career. At 17-0, she’s never even really been in danger of losing. However, Dicaire has also never knocked out an opponent.
Claressa Shields has two KOs in her career, but has scored six straight victories via decision. In this 10 round world title fight, I expect these two champs to go the distance. I don’t see a knockout for either fighter.

Who Becomes the Undisputed World Champion?
Can anyone honestly sit here and say that Shields is going to lose? She’s a former Olympic gold medalist, a three division world champ, a trailblazer, and an elite athlete who really is the best in women’s boxing.
Shields is younger, has more power, is more athletic, has a better resume, and is the better overall fighter in this contest. Legacy is the big opponent here, not Dicaire. Yet, Shields can’t and won’t overlook the Canadian on Friday night.
Take Shields to win this match via unanimous decision as she lands more punches and outboxes Dicaire for 10 rounds. Shields should win eight of the 10 rounds.

What’s Next for Shields?
After she wins, as most pundits expect her to, Shields’ next fight will be in the sport of MMA and for the Professional Fighters League (PFL).
Last November, Shields signed a multi-year deal with PFL that will see the decorated boxer compete in multiple non-season fights with the goal of Claressa looking to compete in the 2022 season format. Shields is expected to have her first MMA fight this summer.

As for making the move to MMA, Shields gave the following reasons:
“I wanted to test myself. I want to see if I can be a world champion in boxing and a world champion in MMA. That’s something I want to test myself on. I’m not saying boxing is easy, but I’ve been on top of the world for almost 14 years now.”
Shields is determined to become a world champ in MMA as well. And, there’s no reason to doubt her when it comes to that goal. She went 77-1 as an amateur boxer, won Olympic gold medals, and won world titles in three divisions.
Shields is a once in a generation athlete looking to do something no female has ever done before. In fact, she’s on the verge of doing something that no male athlete has ever done either.
Each fight she wins in either sport will continue to add to her legacy as one of the best athletes in the history of combat sports.
