Cobra Kai Season 3 Recap

Season three had so many awesome moments that there’s not enough time to cover them all. So, let’s focus on a few major storylines starting with the return of Elizabeth Shue who played Ali Mills in the first Karate Kid movie.

She was at the crux of the rivalry between Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso when they were in high school. Yet, her return didn’t ramp up any violence between the two. Instead, she helped to bring the peace and further both Lawrence and LaRusso towards working together.

In addition to Shue, we also saw LaRusso return to Okinawa where Karate Kid 2 took place. He reunited with Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita) and ended a mortal feud with Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) all while saving his business and finding inner peace.

Season three also saw the war between dojos escalate into an uncontrollable outbreak of violence that created public fear.  The chaos between the high school kids initially led to the cancelling of the All Valley Tournament before Samantha LaRusso and Miguel Diaz could save it.

At the end of the season, we see Lawrence and LaRusso team up to take on John Kreese. In the waning moments of the season, Kreese said that they can settle their differences in the All Valley Tournament where he would leave town if Cobra Kai didn’t win.

The next scene saw Kreese pick up the phone and call someone for some assistance. Let the rumors and speculations begin.

Total Times ‘Sweep the Leg’ is Mentioned in Season 4

  • Over 3.5 Times (-130)
  • Under 3.5 Times (+100)

The Karate Kid franchise has many quotes that have become pop culture phrases like “Sweep the Leg” and “Wax On, Wax Off.”

Yet, entertainment betting sites are only focusing on leg sweeps as a prop bet four season four. That’s probably a smart idea considering Lawrence, at the behest of Kreese, practically crippled LaRusso with a leg sweep in the 1984 All Valley Tournament.

In some of the fight scenes between the teenage warriors, we’ve seen some perfectly executed leg sweeps. However, we never really heard anyone utter “sweep the leg.”

It’s hard to imagine that the writers will try to cram this popular phrase into season four as they’ve done a brilliant job letting things naturally flow like Mr. Miyagi’s karate teachings.

With that in mind, go with the Under 3.5 option for this bet. I don’t see this phrase being mentioned more than twice and the +100 odds offer great value.

All Valley Karate Championship – Match Winner

  • Samantha LaRusso (-140)
  • Tory Nichols (+110)

Miguel Diaz and Robby Keene are on a collision course in the tournament as they each lead their respective teams. Yet, the feud between Samantha LaRusso and Tory Nichols might be the best outside of Johnny, Daniel and Kreese.

Season three saw a nice storyline arc where Samantha suffered from PTSD after the high school attack by Tory. Throughout the season, LaRusso struggled with flashbacks and severe anxiety whenever Nichols came around.

At one point, Samantha’s friends got beat up and Demetri suffered a broken arm due to LaRusso having a panic attack at the sight of Tory.

By the final episode of season three, the violence was so intense that Nichols and the rest of Cobra Kai went to LaRusso’s home and savagely attacked Samantha, Miguel and their teammates.

Tory and Samantha fought throughout the house and then into the training room where a picture of Mr. Miyagi was knocked to the floor.

The picture inspired Samantha to overcome her fears just like her father Daniel did at the end of Karate Kid 3 when he beat Mike Barnes to win the All Valley Tournament. Samantha found her courage and turned the tides against Tory.

This feud sets up perfectly for a showdown in the All Valley Tournament. It has more meat on the bone than Miguel vs Robby or any other combination.

As for this prop bet, you have to go with Samantha. The writers have done a wonderful job turning Samantha into a mini-Daniel LaRusso. It’s almost as if we’re seeing a modern day version of the first film.

Take Samantha to win over Tory in the tournament. It’s the feel good moment that we’re accustomed to seeing in Cobra Kai and the Karate Kid films.

All Valley Karate Championship Match Winner –LaRusso (-140)

Who Wins the All Valley Karate Championship?

  • Miguel Diaz (+100)
  • Robby Keene (+180)
  • Eli ‘Hawk’ Moskowitz (+350)
  • Samantha LaRusso (+400)
  • All Other Fighters (+500)
  • Kyler (+600)
  • Tory Nichols (+700)
  • Demetri (+900)
  • Mitch (+1800)
  • Dre Parker (+2000)
  • Anthony LaRusso (+2200)

There are plenty of options for this prop bet, but let’s look at the most likely candidates to win the All Valley Tournament in what will be the major storyline for season four:

Miguel Diaz (+100)

Diaz is the golden boy for Lawrence and now LaRusso as well. He’s already won an All Valley Tournament and looks to become a two-time winner just like Johnny and Daniel.

Yet, He’s Clearly Not Back to Being 100% Healthy as Seen in Season Three

Diaz is still recovering from having his back broken and facing the possibility of never walking again. But, like the Mr. Miyagi magic from the films, Diaz channeled his inner cobra and learned to walk again.

It’s hard to imagine a scenario where Diaz will be healthy enough to beat Robby who’s seeking revenge against Miguel, Samantha, his father and Daniel.

Plus, Diaz already defeated Keene in an All Valley Tournament. It could be Robby’s turn to win.

Robby Keene (+180)

As mentioned, Keene will be the main antagonist for the teenagers heading into season four as he’s aligned himself with Kreese and will be the head of the snake against the opposing dojos.

Keene’s story went from bad to worse in season three where he started off on the run from the law due to what he did to Miguel in the epic high school battle at the end of season two.

Eventually, Keene was turned in by Daniel LaRusso, stood up by his dad in juvenile hall, and was constantly getting bullied while behind bars. This hardened Keene and turned him to the dark side where he is now Kreese’s top student.

Samantha LaRusso (+400)

Samantha is the best chance at continuing the LaRusso legacy in the tournament and the Miyagi way of karate. Now that she’s fully committed to karate, defending her family honor, uniting with Miguel, and no longer afraid of Tory, I see LaRusso being a major force in season four of Cobra Kai.

Tory Nichols (+700)

Tory is one of my favorite characters in the show. She plays a villain that we can relate to. Growing up she’s had to face hardships unlike Samantha who’s had a silver spoon. Nichols has to work to take care of her little brother and sick mother.

Additionally, she was cheated on by Miguel as he began making out with Samantha despite “going steady” with Tory at the end of season two.

Unlike Robby, Tory is the villain we can root for because she’s in this position due to circumstances beyond her control. But, will it be enough for her to win in the tournament against Samantha?

Who Wins the Tournament?

With everything on the line, it’s hard to imagine Hawk, Demetri or any of the other characters stepping up to save Eagle Fang and Miyagi-Do.

Also, we’ve already seen a Diaz vs Keene matchup, but with the two in different roles. I see these two being disqualified at some point which opens the door for a showdown between Samantha and Tory to win the tournament.

Having Samantha face her biggest bully is reminiscent of how her father faced Johnny in the first Karate Kid film. I see the writers going down this route and giving the tournament win to Samantha as she proudly continues the LaRusso and Miyagi-Do legacy.

Who Wins the All Valley Karate Championship? –LaRusso (+400)

Storylines for Previous Cobra Kai Characters

In addition to the prop bets above, online betting sites have also listed odds on the following secondary characters who have made an impact on the show:

Does Jacob ‘Hawk’ Bertrand Go Back to Cobra Kai in Season 4?

  • Yes (-140)
  • No (+110)

Like Tory, Hawk is also one of my favorite characters. I’m jealous of the Mohawk and appreciate his evolution as a character. From nerd to villain, Hawk was one of the best characters in the first two seasons.

His role as villain continued all the way until the final episode of the third season where a light bulb went off and he realized that he doesn’t want to be a member of the snake clan anymore.

One of the best executed characters in this Show.

Instead, Hawk decided to turn from the dark side to the light and help the kids that used to be his friends.

In mid-battle, Hawk went from beating up the good guys to joining them. He reunited with his former teammate Miguel, his former best friend Demetri, and is now a member of the Eagle Fang, Miyagi-Do super clan.

There’s certainly a chance that Hawk can change his mind again and go back to the Cobra Kai dojo. But, that would be silly if he did.

Instead, I see Hawk being a sacrificial lamb for Keene in the tournament. Take the “no” option for this wager.

Jacob ‘Hawk’ Returns to Cobra Kai –No (+110)

Does Aisha Make an Appearance in Season 4?

  • Yes (+160)
  • No (-230)

With girls being a major part of the upcoming All Valley Tournament, and the violence in the streets being over with, Aisha should reappear in season four to help her friend Samantha out at some point.

Even if it’s just an episode or two, it would make perfect sense to see Aisha return. In fact, perhaps the writers could have her as a member of another dojo and she shows up in the tournament.

The creative brass has already said that past characters weren’t gone for good despite not being in season three like Aisha. With that in mind, I like the value with the “yes” option and the storyline logic behind Aisha returning.

Does Aisha Make an Appearance? –Yes  (+160)

Will We See Any Surprise Appearances in Season 4?

This is where the rumors and speculations have reached a fever pitch. At the end of season three, Kreese was holding a picture that was taken of him and his friends in Vietnam. He picked up the phone and called someone asking for their assistance.

That final scene of season three has sparked excitement as to who he could be calling and which characters from the past Karate Kid films could make an appearance in the upcoming season.

Since Cobra Kai is all about connecting to the past Karate Kid films and having special appearances, just like in season three, the following prop bets have us salivating over the possibilities for season four:

Does Terry Silver Make an Appearance in Season 4?

  • Yes (-500)
  • No (+200)

After feuding with LaRusso and Miyagi throughout the first couple of Karate Kid films, the third installment saw Kreese call his old Vietnam buddy Terry Silver and tell him he was done teaching karate due to LaRusso and Miyagi.

This upset Silver and he swore on their friendship that he would get revenge on those two. So, Karate Kid 3 was all about how Silver pretending to be LaRusso’s friend only to teach him poor karate techniques and then reveal that he was with Kreese and Mike Barnes all along.

Eventually, LaRusso and Miyagi would thwart Silver’s plans by defeating Barnes in the All Valley Tournament to win his second title. Prior to the tournament, Miyagi took out Barnes, Kreese and Silver all in one fight.

At the end of Cobra Kai season three, Kreese was holding a photo of his Vietnam buddies with Silver in the picture. We also learned why Silver was indebted to Kreese during Cobra Kai season three. It was due to Kreese saving his life when they were held as prisoners during the war.

“Class…we have a visitor”.

You know if Kreese is smiling, something REALLY bad is going down, and If you’re on team #Lawrusso, it can’t get much worse than this!

All signs are pointing to Thomas Ian Griffith returning as Terry Silver to the Karate Kid universe by appearing in season four.

It should be noted that in the first three films, Griffith was the only major actor along with Mike Barnes to have real karate experience. Yet, Griffith was a step above Barnes as he has black belts in kenpo karate and tae kwon do.

Personally, I loved him in the underappreciated 1996 film Hollow Point where he starred with Tia Carrere and Donald Sutherland.

Cobra Kai has been all about bringing back major characters from the past films to the current hit show. And, it seems like they’re going in order from the films.

In season two, they brought back all of the main characters who were in Cobra Kai with Johnny. In season three, they brought back Ali, Kumiko and Chozen. Heck, they even brought back the little girl that Daniel saved in Karate Kid 2.

When you take that into consideration along with all of Kreese’s flashbacks to Vietnam during season four, and showing the younger version of Silver, it makes perfect sense that we will see Griffith return to the Karate Kid universe as Terry Silver.

It will be great to see what evil plans Silver and Kreese come up with as they take on LaRusso and Lawrence. Although there’s no value with this prop bet, the “yes” option is the clear wager.

Does Terry Silver Make an Appearance? –Yes (-500)

Does Mike Barnes Make an Appearance in Season 4?

  • Yes (-230)
  • No (+160)

Along with Terry Silver, Mike Barnes was the main antagonist in Karate Kid 3. He was known as the “bad boy of karate,” and terrorized LaRusso all film long. In fact, he pummeled Daniel in the tournament final, but ended up failing to accomplish Silver’s evil scheme.

Barnes could’ve easily won the match against LaRusso, but purposely had points taken away after every time he scored a point.

This led to an overtime where Daniel scored the winning point by using the ancient Miyagi kata as he would capture his second All Valley Tournament championship.

Barnes was played by Sean Kanan who also had real world karate experience in Shotokan karate. He practiced kickboxing, boxing and Shitoryu karate as well.

Kanan would go on to have modest success starring in Soap Operas and Studio City which he created along with his wife. He’s still involved in acting and studying martial arts, which makes Kanan another realistic possibility of returning to the Karate Kid universe.

The writers have a lot of freedom with how they choose to fill in the gaps after Barnes lost to LaRusso in the tournament. He was left in frustration as Silver and Kreese walked away.

Did the relationship between Silver and Barnes end after that tournament? Has Barnes gone down a different path in life? Did he go on to have a prolific karate career?

All of these questions would make great angles for a storyline with Barnes returning. I would love to see how Barnes and Lawrence interact based on their tempers.

If the producers can bring back Chozen then they can definitely bring back Barnes as well. Take the “yes” option for this wager.

Does Mike Barnes Make an Appearance? –Yes (-230)

Does Hilary Swank Make an Appearance in Season 4?

  • Yes (+550)
  • No (-2000)

Hilary Swank had her Hollywood breakthrough in 1994 when she played Julie Pierce in The Next Karate Kid. This was the first film in the Karate Kid series that Ralph Machio didn’t participate in.

Despite having no mention of Swank’s character Julie, the producers of Cobra Kai stated that the film does fall within the “Miyagi-verse.” And, rightfully so.

After Daniel was off living his own life for the first time without his friend and mentor, Mr. Miyagi had plenty of free time on his hands. Yet, it wasn’t as simple as finding another student. More like, life brought Miyagi another student.

Mr. Miyagi went back to Boston for a ceremony honoring the Japanese-American soldiers that fought in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War II.

At the ceremony, he meets Louisa Pierce who is the widow of his former commanding officer Jack Pierce. Eventually, he’s introduced to the granddaughter Julie Pierce and comes to learn about her issues with bullying.

So, like with Daniel, Mr. Miyagi decides to mentor and care for Julie along with teaching her karate. Ultimately, they team up to defeat the bad guys and we see another happy ending in the “Miyagi-verse.”

Julie and Daniel are the two best students of Mr. Miyagi. It’s inevitable that they will meet one day. With that said, I don’t expect their meeting to take place in season four.

We already have a lot going on in the 4th season and the most likely returns of Terry Silver and Mike Barnes.

I believe it makes better sense to have Swank show up in season five where the writers can build a longer storyline throughout the season. For this prop bet, go with the “no” option despite the huge odds.

Does Hilary Swank Make an Appearance? –No (-2000)

Does Jaden Smith Make an Appearance in Season 4?

  • Yes (+900)
  • No (-3000)

In 2010, Hollywood decided to do a remake of the original Karate Kid. However, this film has no ties to the “Miyagi-verse” as Pat Morita had died five years earlier.

Jackie Chan would play the role of “Mr. Miyagi” in the new film, but with the name Mr. Han. Jaden Smith played the role of “Daniel LaRusso,” but with the name Drew Parker.

Since this film has no direct ties to Cobra Kai, I don’t see any reason why Jaden Smith would be in season four. However, I like the idea of a cameo by Smith in season five. Perhaps, we could even get a cameo from Jackie Chan in season five as well.

They don’t have to play their characters, but having them in the show even as different characters would be cool. As for this wager, with the betting odds being so high, take the “No” option.

Does Jaden Smith Make an Appearance? –No (-3000)
