T

he so-called “Non-COVID Municipalities”, with a low, medium, and high number of cases, have been authorized to implement “pilot plans” for the reopening of casino and bingo establishments in Colombia, in accordance with the executive order issued Tuesday by President Iván Duque.

These reopening plans can be adopted as long as they are in compliance with the health and safety guidelines established by the Health Ministry, which, for instance, prohibit the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

These protocols have not been officially approved yet, so until then, the pilot plans cannot begin.

The executive order also calls for an extension of the country’s lockdown, requiring the mandatory isolation of all citizens until 1 September 2020. This suggests that the reopenings will be at local authorities’ discretion, and with a nationwide reopening not yet on the cards.

Colombia’s land-based gaming sector faced a shutdown in March when the nation’s Health Ministry ordered all places of public gathering close.
