Although betting on sporting events is now legal within its borders, the Gaming Control Board has announced that Louisiana online sports betting is not quite ready for the public. The state approved and legalized sports wagers back in June, and land based sports betting launched earlier this month. Despite this, however, the regulation of gambling over the internet has caused additional issues. And now the state police are involved.

Law enforcement is still in the process of trying to verify web-based sports book partners so that Louisiana online sports betting licenses can be issued. State Gaming Control Board Chairman Ronnie Johns stated that “We need to do this the right way… We’re trying to have it as fast as we can, and I’m going to predict the first of the year for when we have mobile”.

Actually, anytime in January would be just fine, as there are not a lot of sports to bet on outside of the NFL playoffs. Of course, the Super Bowl will take place in the early part of February, and things look to be on course to allow residents to bet on the big game via their mobile devices.

Even though Louisiana online sports betting is not currently available for real money wagers, the Caesars app is still currently available for download in the state. Additionally, both FanDuel and DraftKings have already been given approval to operate Daily Fantasy contests and will be ready when mobile betting finally goes live in the state.
