For quite some time, fans have been calling for the third matchup between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury. Unfortunately, it’s beginning to look highly unlikely that we’ll ever see this Wilder-Fury trilogy fight.

It’s easy to see why so many people believe the sport of boxing is at its best right now. Every single division is loaded with talent. The heavyweight division, in particular, seems to be the best it has been since the 1980s.
2020 was obviously a tough year for the entire sports world. It wasn’t until June that any major boxing promotions began operating again. Despite the difficulties, fans were still treated to several major fights.
We got to see Anthony Joshua defend his heavyweight titles against Kubrat Pulev. Alexander Povetkin shocked the world with a knockout win over Dillian Whyte. Oleksandr Usyk proved he’s a title contender by defeating Derek Chisora.
2021 is now shaping up to be an incredible year for the heavyweight boxing scene. BetOnline is already offering odds on several matches slated to take place this year. That includes the February 27 matchup between Joseph Parker (-1000) and Junior Fa (+700).
Some of the most-anticipated heavyweight clashes of the year have yet to be formally announced. There are several men sitting at the top of the rankings that fans want to see competing. None is bigger than the third fight between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.
This has been discussed for nearly a year. To the disappointment of fans around the world, it now seems unlikely that this bout will ever take place.
Promoters Shut Down Hopes of Seeing the Wilder-Fury Trilogy Fight
For many years, there was a serious debate raging amongst boxing fans over who was the best heavyweight boxer on the planet. Many believed it was Deontay Wilder, the American champion with a nearly 100% knockout ratio. Others felt the UK-based Tyson Fury had the footwork and range to defeat any man he competed against.
These two men finally competed for the first time back in December of 2018. Most online sports betting sites listed the odds extremely close for each man. This bout ended up being one of the best in heavyweight history and ended in a controversial draw.
It took more than two years, yet these men finally stepped back into the ring against one another. This time, Fury pushed the pace early and began picking Wilder apart. He eventually got the stoppage in the 7th round.
Getting the third fight to take place has been extremely difficult. Wilder has been claiming Fury cheated during their rematch. He has seemed hesitant to officially accept a contract for the third bout. Fans have been left wondering if it will ever take place.
Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn certainly doesn’t feel so. He spoke to the media recently about the possibility of the Wilder-Fury trilogy fight coming together.
“I can’t talk on behalf of Tyson Fury, but the vibe I’m getting from everything I’ve seen on social media is he isn’t giving Deontay Wilder another chance or another shot ever,” Hearn said. “Especially after he said what he said. The accusations of him being a cheat. Tampering with his gloves, people putting stuff in his drinks. It was bizarre. That was even more bizarre than 2020 itself. He (Arum) is not too concerned. He feels like the (Fury vs. Wilder) contract is over.”
It has been looking this way for many years. Many fans have been claiming that this is a fight we will never see. This doesn’t mean Tyson Fury doesn’t have some massive fights on the horizon, though.
More Reports Claim Fury vs. Joshua is Happening This Year
The two bouts between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury were astounding. They answered a lot of questions, too. There is now no doubt that Tyson Fury is the better fighter and managed to hand Wilder the first loss of his career.
The biggest fight in the sport might now be Fury against Anthony Joshua. Fans in the UK have been pushing for this bout for many years. Joshua is a multiple-time heavyweight champion with wins over some of the best heavyweights in the sport.
There has never been such a big fight between two UK-based fighters. Not long ago, reports surfaced that claim this fight is being targeted for the summer of 2021. It hasn’t been made official, yet more reports are pointing towards this happening at some point this year.
BetOnline is also offering odds on this bout! At the moment, Tyson Fury is listed as the -185 favorite. He is a thunderous puncher with a much-improved defensive game in recent bouts. Many feel he has what it takes to stop Fury with a knockout in the early rounds.
Tyson Fury is undefeated and showed more killer instinct in his recent bout against Deontay Wilder. He still comes in as the +165 underdog against Joshua, though.
