For the first time in its 241-year history, the latest renewal of the Epsom Derby moves to July.

Two of British horse racing’s most sought-after prizes, the Derby and Oaks, both take place on a jam-packed day of racing in Surrey on Saturday afternoon, with the legendary Frankie Dettori aiming to complete a rare Derby-Oaks double on English King and Frankly Darling.

Step this way….

Epsom Derby Tips – 16:55

He’s racing royalty so it’s perhaps fitting that Frankie Dettori teams up with English King on Saturday as he bids to land a third Derby career win with Ed Walker’s imperious three-year old. Rapid improvement in 2020 adds to his leading claims, including his demolition of Berkshire Rocco in the Lingfield Derby Trial.

2000 Guineas winner Kameko is looking to add another Classic to his trophy cabinet, but this looks a different test to Newmarket with question marks around how well suited to this much longer trip he’ll be.

One horse that could reign supreme if either of the pre-race favourites fluff their lines is Russian Emperor. He looks to be Aiden O’Brien’s leading charge in the Derby after an outstanding run at Royal Ascot to land the Hampton Court Stakes. Stablemate Mogul could also mean business with Ryan Moore on board, but he failed to impress with a limp fourth in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Put your faith in Pyledriver to be in and around the places. He blows hot and cold but came from nowhere to down the likes of Mogul and Mohican Heights in the King Edward and teams up with Martin Dwyer again this weekend.

English King – 18/5
Pyledriver – 18/1 EW

Epsom Oaks Tips – 15:40

The Beatles may have sung Love is all you need, but the 1000 Guineas winner looks just one of several viable candidates to land this year’s Oaks.

Aiden O’Brien’s three-year-old powered through the field at Newmarket and has the staying power to suggest another landmark here could be on the cards.

Frankie Dettori and Frankly Darling look the danger after easing through the field to run away with the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot, while Galileo dam Passion looks to be improving all the time and could get hearts beating after running Frankly Darling close at Ascot.

Frankly Darling 7/4
Passion – 22/1 EW

Mutazawwed

More than capable of making a splash in the day’s opener after scoring at Lingfield last month. Looks an exciting prospect for trainer Mark Johnston.

Safe Voyage

A smooth journey looks likely for John Quinn’s reliable seven-year-old, who notched up an eye-catching 2019 campaign which included a hat-trick of wins at Haydock.

15:00 – Investec Handicap

Tinandali

Chances can’t be dismissed after an encouraging recent run at Ayr where he scooped a credible second, especially with the experienced Jim Crowley taking the reins on Saturday.

16:15 – Princess Elizabeth Stakes

Fooraat

Top-class credentials given leading stable connections and has the 2020 form to back that up with a convincing win at Chelmsford.

Looks an interesting option to eye up the win in the day’s final race after registering some notable results in 2020. Spring wins at Lingfield and Wolverhampton suggest each-way claims.
