We’re back with more tennis predictions ahead of all the action from Paris…

French Open Betting Preview

Due to this year’s unprecedented sporting disruption, the 2020 tennis calendar has been tighter than ever. Just hours after the end of the US Open, most players switched their attention to the clay as they headed to the ATP Masters 1000 Rome ahead of an abridged clay court season.

Many factors come into play when trying to work out potential French Open champions. Fatigue could well be a factor with such a tight turnaround in tournaments – which could see players who went deep into the US Open feel the strain in the opening rounds.

However, flip that argument around, and the likes of Zverev, Thiem and Azarenka might well benefit from having little time to reflect on their US Open exploits as they shift gears in Paris.

Here’s our look at some of the favourites in the French Open outrights markets.

French Open Predictions 2020

Players like Djokovic, Thiem and, above all, Rafa Nadal, have a game that often sees them thrive on clay – and it hardly needs restating that Nadal is indisputably the best clay court player of all time.

This year’s tournament at Roland Garros has one major curveball, however: the weather. Its postponement from mid-summer will likely mean more games played under the retractable roof, with rainy conditions only to be expected in the French capital at this time of year.

This, added to colder temperatures, will make it the most unusual French Open in history.

Men’s Singles: Can Djokovic or Thiem topple Nadal?

Rafa Nadal (11/10) is the ‘King of Clay’, and for yet another year, heads up the betting as the heavy favourite to lift his thirteenth Roland Garros title.

The tennis player who has won the most times at the Philippe-Chatrier in Paris might just be facing his greatest challenge yet.

The next generation finally look to be finding some consistency (Thiem, Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Zverev) and a fired-up Djokovic represent a major challenge for the Spaniard.

Dominic Thiem and Novak Djokovic will not make it easy for the Spaniard, although he may well be fresher after withdrawing from Flushing Meadows.

Djok (13/5) will be desperate to make up for his self-inflicted exit on clay after his unexpected disqualification from the US Open, with Austrian Thiem (33/10) rounding off the ‘big three’ at this tournament after breaking his Grand Slam duck.

On two occasions, Thiem has been on the verge of glory in Paris (2018 and 2019). Can the Austrian win two consecutive majors?

Women’s Singles: Halep to clean up on the clay?

The odds for the Women’s Singles look interesting, with several big names returning to action here. Simona Halep (4/1), the current number two in the WTA rankings, looks a strong contender to shine here, as one of the most consistent performers in this Slam. Halep was champion in Paris in 2018 and a finalist in 2014 and 2017.

World Number 1 Ashleigh Barty won’t be back to defend her crown in Paris due to Covid concerns, which could mean Garbiñe Muguruza (10/1) is one to keep an eye on as a previous winner here.

Serena Williams will be eyeing up yet another opportunity to lift her 24th Grand Slam. Despite several near misses, her consistency means she is once again among the favourites to win at Roland Garros at odds of 9/1.
