For years, boxing fans have been pushing to see the massive welterweight clash between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford. Unfortunately, getting these two undefeated champions to face each other has proven extremely difficult. Many now believe that Garcia vs. Crawford is the next best fight to make in the division.

Mikey Garcia has lost just once in his professional career. He has the skills to truly test Terence Crawford inside the ring. Today, we’ll discuss what could lead to this fight coming together and how it might play out.

Here’s what we know.

Errol Spence Jr. Demands Lion Share of Money to Fight Terence Crawford

Professional boxers compete for many reasons. Glory, fame, and praise are all reasons why the world’s best fighters put it all on the line. Of course, money is the most obvious reason why these men and women put their bodies on the line.

Oftentimes, this gets in the way of the best fighters competing against one another. A loss can sometimes derail a fighter’s entire career. For that reason, it’s common to see champions avoid each other to keep their records intact.

This seems to be the case between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford. They are clearly the two best welterweights alive right now. Unfortunately, it’s been nearly impossible to get them to step into the ring together. As time goes on, fans are getting more frustrated with this situation.

Not long ago, Errol Spence Jr. told the media he was open to finally facing off against Terence. Unfortunately, he is demanding the lion’s share of the total fight purse. Spence feels he is the “A-side” in this matchup and deserves the majority of revenue earned from the bout.

That didn’t sit well with the 37-0 Crawford, who pointed out Spence’s comments as a sign that he doesn’t really want to compete. This is a tale as old as time in the world of boxing. It’s also one of the reasons why the sport has struggled to attract more fans in recent decades.

2021 might not be the year fans are treated to the blockbuster fight between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford. That doesn’t mean these men won’t be stepping into the ring against other opponents, though.

More Fans Are Getting On Board With Garcia vs. Crawford

Terence Crawford might be the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world. It’s hard to prove it without beating the other best welterweight in the world. Most recently, he defeated former champion Kell Brook via TKO in the fourth round.

There are still plenty of challengers left for Crawford to face in the ring. That includes Mikey Garcia, who is now 40-1 in the ring with a recent win over Jessie Vargas. He has phenomenal fundamentals and methodically breaks his opponents down.

Many fans now feel that Garcia vs. Crawford is the next-best fight to make at welterweight. Some believe that Mikey fights too smart to get caught with Crawford’s traps. It seems that Garcia is interested in making this fight happen, too.

“If the relationship isn’t as strong as it used to be, he might leave Top Rank,” he told the media. “We’ve heard him say some things about Top Rank, and we’ve heard Top Rank say some things about Crawford. I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but if he does leave Top Rank, that could open the doors for a potential fight. He could fight any of the guys that are on the other side… If he does leave Top Rank and decides to do things on his own or with the help of PBC or anyone that might allow us to fight these kinds of guys, including myself, then that’s a good fight for me too.”

Mikey Garcia is not someone who backs away from challenges. He famously went up in weight to challenge Errol Spence Jr. back in March of 2019. It also seems likely that Terence Crawford would be interested in facing off with another big name like Mikey.

We may never get to see Spence and Crawford fight each other. Luckily for fans, there are plenty of exciting matchups still on the horizon.

Other Super Fights Fans Hope to See in 2021

The days when the best boxers in the world agreed to face each other with no hesitation are gone. It takes teams of individuals to get things done in the boxing world today. 2021 is shaping up to be a year filled with huge fights, however, many of which fans have been asking to see for years.

The most obvious one is the heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. These two UK heavyweights are now considered to be the best in the world. Unlike the Spence-Crawford fight, however, both actually seem willing to face off in the ring.

Negotiations between these two fighters are ongoing. Several reports indicate we could see them face off sometime this summer. It will likely end up being the biggest fight in UK boxing history. That’s great news for fans in the UK, all of whom will see live events finally resume again this February.

Over in the lightweight division, many fans are getting excited to see the clash between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis. Davis recently proved he’s championship-level by knocking out Luke Campbell. Davis has been one of lightweight’s scariest knockout artists for years.

BetOnline, one of the best online sportsbooks in the US, is offering odds on all of these matchups. Many believe now is the perfect time to wager on how things play out. As the fights draw closer, the odds may change.

It now seems likely that we’ll see Garcia vs. Crawford taking place sometime this year. Who do you think will win? Let us know in the comments section below!
