It’s Day 1 of Glorious Goodwood today, with the showpiece Group 1 Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes the highlight of the first day of racing.

Frankie Dettori will be teaming up with the legendary Stradivarius (4/7) once again as the inseparable pair gun for a record fourth Goodwood Cup, but could it be one tilt too many for the almighty duo?
This race has tended to fall to younger horses in recent years, with eight-year-old Cavalryman the last winner over the age of five to take the opening day’s feature race.
However, Stradivarius showed his staying power is still a force to be reckoned with at Royal Ascot as he crushed the rest of the field by 10L in the Gold Cup.
While this trip is slightly shorter, his rivals will need to up their respective games to stand a chance of matching him today.
His closest contender at Ascot on that occasion, Nayef Road (22/1), looks likely to be in the reckoning again today, but Mark Johnston’s four-year-old never truly looked like troubling him in that match-up. However, Nayef Road flourished in the Gordon Stakes here last year and has the latent talent to pull off a potential shock.
On form, the stylish Santiago (2/1) also looks to have timed this clash to perfection after signature wins in the Queen’s Vase and Irish Derby, but this test may have come a year too soon.
Spanish Mission (28/1) could also be worth sniffing out in the each-way stakes after an encouraging run over this distance at Sandown earlier this month.
