Las Vegas casino-hotel Circus Circus is undergoing renovations for over $25 million. The update is part of a plan by casino mogul Phil Ruffin, who took ownership of the property in 2019, to bring the venue back to its heyday with nearly $30 million in investments.

The latest developments at the property include a new “Garage” arcade area, already built, which includes bowling, mini golf, and a VR game that allows players to simulate flying, reports 8 News Now.

Moreover, as part of its facelift, Circus Circus has brought new rides to its Carnival Midway. It has also introduced Ax It Up, a new offering that gives families a chance to try ax throwing.

However, one of the most surprising additions is an upcoming SpongeBob-themed ride, which is said to be the “only one of its kind” on the West Coast and is set to open in December.

Speaking about the changes brought by 2019’s change of ownership, Circus Circus Senior Vice President of Operations Shana Gertey told the cited source: “We were really trying to focus on making the guest experience for kids, families that much better. He came and saw what a real jewel this is, and he realized that it just needs a little bit of love.”

So far, $25 million have been spent on renovations at Circus Circus. The biggest costs are in upgrading elevators, worth $12 million. The renovations are expected to be done by the end of next year, while work on the elevators wrapping up in 2025.

Last year, Circus Circus also received a paint job to bring bright colors back into the palette of the hotel. “Back when the property opened, it had a lot of bright, fun colors to it,” Gerety told Las Vegas Review-Journal at the time. “We want to get back to the bright pinks and purples and blues. Make it feel more like a circus.”
